Title: Screen problem
Post by: smrm on August 05, 2017, 11:20:59 AM
Hello!
So yesterday I was busy jamming away on the preenfm2 and I looked over to see the screen full of boxes and a line of glitchy figures at the top which changed when I moved a pot. I decided to turn it off and on again and since then the screen just displays two lines of boxes. Anyone help me here? I have tried reformatting the usb stick so could it be some hardware issue?

does the synth still produce sound, work as expected (apart from the display issue)?

maybe one of the display solderpoints has come loose. did you solder the synth yourself?
was there some heavy vibration from your jam going on?

just some ideas.

you can also attach a photo of the display here, it might help to identify the issue.

Hi there thanks for replying. After a few days inactivity I've come back to sort it out so I switched it on and now I get a scrambled screen but with some of the menus there. Then when any button is pressed more gibberish appears. also yes there is still sound. are there any solder points I need to address? it is a diy one but I didn't solder it,bought it second hand.
Thanks!

how do you power it? from usb or wall wart? i had issues with some usb connectors on my MacBook air not outputting enough current. this gave me a garbled oled output as well.

Hi,

If trying another power don't change anything.

You have to open your preenfm2 :
. Try to reinsert the preenF405 and the display.

Still does not work ?
. Resolder the connection points. The header on the display, the header on the PCB and the preenF405 40 pins socket.

if you have it opened, i would also check if the mod to remove the high pitched noise is already done. it's an easy thing to do, and in my case it made the screen garbling with MacBook air disappear because the oled used now a little less current.

ok, i hope it stays that way.

maybe my assumption with the vibrations causing the glitch were not so wrong :-)
