Title: Mystery part
Post by: Naenyn on February 13, 2018, 09:13:17 AM
I assembled my Preen2FM tonight and everything went great. However, included in my kit was THIS PART (https://www.dropbox.com/s/80vhdgukuixjqjy/2018-02-13%2001.03.50.jpg?dl=0) that I couldn't find on the BOM or anywhere in the instructions. Any idea what this is supposed to be used for? Did I miss something?

That looks like a ready-made shield to avoid the OLED high frequency parasite problem.
You can read about it here (http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=69159.0).

yes, this is used to keep aliens from your preenfm. just put it over the display, so they cannot read your secret patches :-)

no seriously, this is a shield that belongs between the display and the pcb, to reduce the high frequency noise that the oled display emits. see here: http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=69159.0

Thanks for the great info!

What do I do with the wire on the shield? Where should it connect to?

ground. there are many places on the board where you find ground, maybe easiest is the power adapter.
