Physically they are the same as the chineese. There are no difference if you use metal case or 3d print.
Idea was to ship it with metal case to save on shipping. But I can send the screen separately no problem.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Custom Pfm3 screen development.

Hello.

We have been dreaming of a custom made screen for PFM3.
There is always issues with the chineese versions. They come in different shapes. Some have completely wrong PCB layout for the SD card. Some have a different PCB diemensions. Some dont work at all due to bad quality or broken screen.
So me as a Preen builder have always struggled witht screens. You never know whats in the box.

Took some time, but finally I found time to make my own pcb for the screen.

Some notes on the process.

* MicroSD card instead of SD.
* no touchscreen pins
* 1.6mm pcb thickness.
* 3.3V for the screen and SD card. Chineese screens are using lower voltages for some reason.
* voltage regulator in bigger package for better heat dissipation. Pcb layout adjusted to support it.
* 3 Separate voltage rails and filtering groups for microSD card, screen logic and screen background light. This will take care of the wandering pulses in power rails.

The screens will be prebuilt in PCB fab except the glassbody, this has to be hand soldered.
We will test all the screens before shipping.

Hello.

Try the 2A version. It doesnt hurt and will work.
If it doesnt contact me over email to resolve it. There can be something wrong with the jumper configuration.

« on: November 19, 2021, 07:08:09 PM »
I dont have any plans for PFM3 to go to eurorack. Its too big for that. And it kind of doesnt make sense at this point.
If the firmware is more developed and there is time for usable CV inputs that really brings new things to PFM3.

With PFM2 it made the unit really fun and usable with CV inputs. I really still enjoy what I can do with it and how fun and good it sounds.
PFM3 still needs some time in my head. Need to get to know it more and what it can do.
Having 6 outputs then it would need a lot of CV inputs to make it fully usable on all the outputs.

Just moving the PFM3 as it is to eurorack is taking up a lot of HP and its not really functional with other eurorack modules. Output it line level etc.

So it a No on my side at this point.

Hello.

Follow this wiring colours.
The midi connector is mounted so that the Ground tab is low.

Hello,

Sorry I was late with the instructions. I published the updated version.

Hello,

Got the black cases in, also gray case. Looks great!

IF it works. Yes. You can leave them.
But Re-flow the DC jack. Volume potentsiometer and DAC. Also Output jacks are worth looking at.

Some tips for soldering.
1)Clean the tip regulary.
2) Heat the station to about 330to360 Degrees C (depending on your model)
3) Put the soldering-iron tip against the PCB and component leg and then apply some solder. First to a very little to the tip and then to the soldering area.
Keep adding the solder unitl the parts is soldered in.

Never solder with a tip that has a lot of solder on.
Apply most of the solder to the PCB and part leg, not to the soldering-iron-tip.

You anly need a very small amount of solder on the tip. It helps to transfer the heat. But its the only reason its there.

Resolder the small green DAC pcb. It looks bad solder there.
Also look over all the solderpoints. You have a lot of bad soldering going on.
The screen (both sides), encoders, DC jack etc.

It kindof works. So You must have the most of the circuit done correctly.
So its now the question of the analog part and there is few parts only that can be involved. So Send us the pictures!

I am using Virtual Analizer for spectrum at my workshop. Works great! Try it, its free.

« on: April 28, 2021, 08:45:43 AM »
Hi.

What would be the cheapest hardware controllor for PreenFM with MPE support?
I have seen the USB versions a lot. But not with DIN5 midi out.
Any suggestions?

I will make a black case in next run.

Hello.

I have changed the bom of the diy kits. I will update the assembly instructions. You dont need to desolder the pinheader anymore. Also the screens were tested before kitting. So they all worked for me.

I had some issues with SD card holder. It was badly soldered. So I had to manually solder all my screens. But I didnt see such corrupt picture. They were all good on that part.
