preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Power Bank

I have never tried it and it's an investement, but KOMA Elektronik have an unit called Strom Mobile that lets you connect two power bank and transform 5V into 9V or 12V and you can connect up to 4 devices to it. If you are aiming for mobile use of other synth, it seems like a good solution.

If you refer to this: https://www.thomann.de/fr/visual_sound_1_spot_9vdc.htm
It will not work, the positive is on the outside barrel and the negative on the inside. You need the other way around:
+ Inside and - outside (This should be printed on the PSU: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2e/Polarity_marking_center_positive.svg/800px-Polarity_marking_center_positive.svg.png)

9V is fine.

Seems like a good balance. I personally can't stand supra bright screens or leds, i had to dim a lot of blue/white leds that were hurting my eyes when playing in a dark room by leaving ghost images on my retina.

Just a quick note that this is a community forum and even though Xavier sometimes chimes in, I'm not sure anybody here profits from PreenFM sales.
We are just all PreenFM owners and enthusiastics.

I'm sorry you did not get any answers, I have not tips on Oleds, I mainly have been buying full kits, but thanks for the find @solipsvs, I'm sure it will help other!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Yellow OLED : high frequency solution
« on: January 30, 2020, 03:54:32 PM »
Hello all, just a quick message to mention that I finally did this mod after a few years with the high pitch noise.
I'm pretty sensitive to high frequencies and this has been bother me a lot lately.

For me the aluminium sheets mod did not decrease the noise enough ( about 15-20db) and I could still hear it. Maybe my kitchen aluminium was not of the best quality (recycled I guess), so I decided to use two layers of 1mm thick aluminium plate. I also had to wiggle it a bit until it would hit the perfect spot and the fit is pretty tight (the screen is slightly lifted).

I now have a 30db decrease and I was able to hit -100db on the 13khz peak. This is pretty good!

thanks for the tips!

Hey Xavier, I just sent you a PM.

That's really kind of you to offer to send me a new one. As I wrote, if it is too much of a hassle, no sweat!
*Best customer service 2016*   :)

Cheers

Maybe Xavier could tell us.
It is written "Aretop" on the connector. Seems like a generic brand.
Anyway, I got my preenFM to run on a micro SD USB adapter and a 4gb micro SD card. Actually, except for the fact that it has no light blinking, it fits perfectly as it is really tiny compared to a usb stick.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / USB stick bricked story
« on: December 25, 2016, 04:08:07 PM »
Hey All !
First of all, merry *insert whetever makes you happy at this time of the year*!
I just wanted to share the story of how O bricked my USB stick with my PreenFM.

I have a purple 2gb stick that came with the kit and I have been using it since some months and it worked perfectly.
Lately, I wanted to try some presets and combos that are on this forum and used the usb cord to occess the drive without dismounting the case. I use it a few times before it started to act funny.
It first wouldnt unmount and then desappeared only to reappear with gibberish on all the files.
After that, the preenFM would still boot, but it showed empty banks.
When I plugged it directly into my mac, it said that it cannot be read and needed to be reformated.
That's what I did, but it failed in the middle of the process.
since now, it is totally bricked, Macs and PCs are unable to access it as well as format it (it says that it is writting protected). Funny thing is, it seems  that, when the usb key is plugged into the preenfm, I can suddenly access formatting iptions that were greyed out when plugged directly. But the formating seems to take forever or fail as it stays at the "unmounting" step for hours.

So yeah, I'm now trying some other USB keys, but it seems that my old 1gb key would not work for now.

Anyway, if somebody has a miracle solution or would be of any use of this experience, let me know.

Cheers!
