Hello!

Could someone provide steps to upgrade this for me?  I have upgraded my PreenFM2 to 2.10 o but do not know how to adjust the source code to add these new filters.  Is anyone able to "dumb down" the steps for someone like me?  I would appreciate it!  :)

I get lost at "add the bin..."

  • To compile the firmware, you'll need arm-gcc version 4.7
  • Add the bin directory to your PATH, and run 'make', you'll get the list of the available targets.
  • 'make pfm' builds the firmware.
  • Then put your preenfm2 in bootloader mode. Look at DFU part 4.
  • 'make installdfu' flash the firmware on the preenfm2 using the DFU protocol.
  • Once it's done, unplug the power cable and plug it back.

Take care,
Kyle

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Issue with Encoder

Thanks for the schema Xavier, it really helped pinpoint the issue!  It was definitely a point on one of those signal paths that I forgot to solder....haha ugh.....

Finally up and running great!  Also perfected creating a waveform out of my voice (trying to tap into the formant wavetable vibe).  Excited to access the power of this synth, thanks so much again Xavier!

Attached is what it looks like.  I guess it could use a Isopropyl scrub but all of the connections look clean to me on both sides of the PCB.  Their orientation is correct as well.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / [Resolved] Issue with Encoder
« on: February 17, 2017, 03:22:23 AM »
I am having issues with the third encoder highlighted in red in my attachment.  It's constantly jumpy.  If I move it to increase a value, sometimes it counts up in random increments and sometimes it decreases in value (even though I am turning the knob clockwise).  Then if I use it to turn counterclockwise or to decrease a value, it still goes down but when I stop twisting the knob it it shoots right up to the maximum value without me touching the knob.  All of my other encoders work fine and there are no issues with them.

I initially thought it was an issue with the specific encoder, so I ordered a new one from mouser.  These ones do not have the two feet on the backside (highlighted in green), yet they are still acting the same way.  I cleaned my entire board with isopropyl alcohol and ensured solid connections with both this encoder and the initial one.  What is wrong???  Very anxious to get this synth up and running yet keep running into issues.  Please help me.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: PC/Mac Editor version 2.00

I have been using the editor in standalone as I've had issues with one of my encoders (waiting for some in the mail to see if the issue with the part itself) and wanted to program patches in the interim.  I was wondering, is it possible for the editor to read user created waveforms?

Yup, that was the fix.  DIY electronics newbie mistake, thanks Pauto and Xavier.  It's up and running now.   :)

Thanks Pauto!  Yes, I have confirmed the diodes are positioned correctly.  Will see what else happens!

Oh wow, no way!!!  I saw those caps in the bags but didn't realize they were necessary.  I guess the build steps only showed the caps on in the last photo without much mention of it.  Awesome, thanks Pauto, I hope this works!!!

Yeah Jumper 1 and 2 are both populated with 2 pin headers.

Attached is a photo of my board.  Before I put my board in the case, I wanted to make sure everything worked first.  I then found out that it is currently not turning on through USB or wall wart.  When plugging in via USB I did not see the preenfm USB stick show up as a device which I think would nullify the issue of my screen not working.  Is anything missing that is glaringly obvious?

The USB stick has the correct designated filepath.  All connections seem strong.  I went through the build steps again and the only thing I can think of is that the P1 and P3 must be connected.  The 330nF decoupling capacitor and the 1nF plastic capacitors all look different than in the build pictures as I got the kit from Van Daal. The 330nF has 334 printed on the side and I assumed that was ok. The Jmp3 is not connected.  Also the 5V GND and and USB square (near the 7805) are not connected.  From the FAQ it said P3 was optional and I assumed that since I had no intention of using the st-link v2 debugger, P1 would be optional as well and instructions didn't mention the 5V GND or the USB headers.  Am I wrong?  Should the preenF405/CERB40 chip have no exposed metal and completely inserted into its holder?  I can't seem to push it in completely.  Also no LED lights were connected since I am using the metal case and won't be able to see them.  So I am not sure if any of these items are required for me to be able to power the device on.  Help would be much appreciated, excited to get this synth rolling!

I just logged on to ask the same thing.  Initialize patch function?  Or if you use the Create Patch Bank function, will it allow you to make patches within that bank from scratch?

Just a quick question on the aluminum shield mod:  Do you just stuff the bag between the OLED screen and the PCB?  Do you secure it all?  Is it okay if the bag is touching the board?

Thanks for the guidance Xavier!

So P1 and P3 are not required?  I don't plan on using a st-link v2 debugger.  And what does P3 analog input (require dedicated firmware) mean?
