i want to try a couple of minor tweaks.

README.md in firmware source says:

Quote
To compile the firmware, you'll need [arm-gcc version 4.7] (https://launchpad.net/gcc-arm-embedded/+milestone/4.7-2012-q4-major)

will other (e.g. 5.x) versions of arm-gcc work, or is it just untested?

i would love PWM feature, because i'd rather order more PreenFM2 kits than conventional subtractive synths )

but more importantly now (with the 8timbres version) is actually the offset of midi notes to me. so that i can play treble parts and bass parts on the same controller. let's say i1 has a bass part and i2 has a melody part loaded. i can then play both on my controller but i cannot switch octaves on the controller so fast. if i could adjust an offset for i2 i would set it to +24 and all incoming midi on i2 would be 2 octaves higher.
as for me, the best option would be keeping transpose value for an instrument somewhere in the preset if necessary, but leaving MIDI channels settings independent of used presets/combos. (this is how my Novation Nova handles this stuff, and i love it.)

cool! flashed it, seems to be working.
i still don't know yet when i'll have enough time to test it properly, but thanks a lot anyway.

I never tried VST plugin under linux before. I quickly downloaded the free Tracktion 6 for linux, but it complained not being able to inialiaze the VST.
tracktion is not a good choice, since it has issues with stability and a number of quirks.
on debian/ubuntu/derivatives, the best option is adding KXStudio repositories and installing Ardour / QTractor / Carla (the latter is not a DAW, but a plugin host) from there.

on a related note, do you plan to update the 8voices/mono firmware as well? otherwise i will try to merge it.

interested too.
unfortunately, i did not have enough time to test previous 8-timbral beta (and still don't), but since i use PreenFM2 mailnly as the drum/percussion synth, this is very important for me.

for future development it could be nice to have this #ifdef'd so one can build the 4timbres or 8timbres version from the same source.
+1 (again).

7
probably off topic, but look here.
Audiothingies made a device that is very close to what i wanted to get from PreenFM2 when asked about increasing multitimbrality.
http://www.audiothingies.com/product/doubledrummer/

appears to be cool, but for my music styles, FM approach is better anyway, so i'm more likely to order one more PreenFM2 kit next year ))

8
Midi channels are still in Menu=>Settings, but i have a proto with 8 timbres.
Let me know if you find any bugs.
I also didn't test it under heavy load.

Screen displays "8 timbres" when booting with the version 2.07 b1.

WOW!  8)
i flashed new firmware, and i know what i'll do this weekend.

However, the Nova has an *extensive* NRPN facility.  What I'd do is make a bunch of templates for the Novation SL Zero Mk II to control the Nova, assuming Novation hasn't done it already.  You can often get a Zero Mk II for about $100 on ebay (I did).

just one question: how did you know about my rig? )))

mine is Mk 1, but anyway, it's definitely one of the very few best controllers ever made.
btw, a template for PreenFM2 is in progress too.

so, pls keep me informed, if any (semi-)working prototype will appear )

p.s. should be compile-time option, i think.

i'm interested in this actually, since i also only use monophonic sounds. i would like to see 8 monophonic timbres, doable?

maybe if we/you redo the combo file structure for preset saving of midi channel and offset this can be adressed as well, would be great!!!!

as always, i am up for it, but i will need some first guidance :-)

even with reduced polyphony, the idea of 8-part multitimbrality sounds very attractive.
and absolutely sufficient for e.g. drums + bass.

unfortunately, i only could help with testing, but not with coding.

12
currently preenfm2 does 4-part multitimbrality.
so, the question: is it possible/difficult to increase number of timbres (regarding overall polyphony remains the same) ?

here's why: since i use preenfm2 mainly for rhythm section, i would like to increase multitimbrality for more percussive sounds, which are monophonic by their nature. i would love to do all drums/percussion on a single unit.

strange, but the build i had problems with 3 months ago now works as expected.
(with lokki's firmware, but anyway).
seems like something was wrong with prenfm's settings.

3 hours on this firmware. i definitely like it.
advanced MIDI options rock.
usercc is another very cool feature that enlivens the sound of the cyclic sequences (i use preenfm2 mainly for rhythm section).

very nice & usable piece of software.

p.s. after i fiddled with it for an hour, i'm a bit frustrated that i can't code in java, so writing an editor for my precious Novation Nova appears to be not very smart idea, so i'll continue to use stolen librarian/editor in the nearest future )
but maybe someday.
