I recently updated to VOSIM 3 and my PFM3 is not booting unless I press reset button on bottom of PCB.

It may not be VOSIM that is causing this issue. It seemed to be fine after the update, but this not booting thing seems to be happening today.

Any thing I should try out to narrow down the issue?

I'm powering over USB and its the USB power source I always use.
[edit] I used an external power supply also and had exactly the same issue.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / filtering USB +5V line
« on: November 22, 2023, 01:10:34 AM »
Has anyone modded their Preen FM3 to add something like:

https://andybrown.me.uk/2015/07/24/usb-filtering/

Its a ferrite and some caps.

My PFM3 gets kind of noisy on USB power. Which I can work around with the DC connector and removing the USB DC jumpers. But, its just so darn convenient to use USB to power sometimes.

I have a feature request.
It would be cool if we could modulate the "width" of the operator waveforms. Almost like modulating a pulse width of a square wave. So for example, per cycle, a sine wave would complete 360 degrees faster and the remainder of the period could be a DC signal of zero. At 50% the sine would complete within the time it used to take to do 180 degrees and the remaining 180 degrees would be an amplitude of zero (it could look like W5 for the TX81z). Having this as a modulation target would be cool. This is great for making some modern sounds.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / envelope segments

Is there a way to make the segments of the envelopes logarithmic (maybe using the mod matrix)? Specifically the decay segment.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / legato on short sounds
« on: February 24, 2021, 02:22:25 AM »
Now that I'm making and playing with unison sounds, I think I have a programming question regarding envelopes and mono sounds and legato playing style:

When I make short sounds (short envelopes, like a pluck or a bass) that are mono (e.g., either 1 voice or unison) when I hold down a first key, for example C3, then while the first key is still held down the envelope ends (intentionally), I then press the next key, for example C4, ( all the while C3 is still held down), and the pressing of the second key (C4) does not re-trigger the envelope. (The notes I used here are for example only and this holds true of any notes, including ones not in my example.)

I have to release the first note (C3) before pressing a second key to get the second key to sound.

So, the question is, how do I have to set the envelope to allow the triggering of the 2nd key press before the note off of the first key press? or is there another setting I may be missing.

I noted this as an issue also when playing solo sound lead lines in a legato style. If I play the second key to fast (before note off of the first note), I get no sound from that second key press even though the amplitude envelope has ended.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / LFO "depth" as a modulation target
« on: May 10, 2020, 04:29:31 AM »
Tinkering with some patch making tonight and am I wrong/missing something, or is there no Modwheel to LFO modulation "depth" to for example pitch of operator 1. I see there is a LFO rate modulation target.

I enjoy making pads and if I wanted to use the mod wheel to bring in a subtle pitch vibrato, how would I do it using current modulation targets?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / start phase of an operator
« on: December 01, 2019, 05:05:35 PM »

Is there a way to modulate the starting phase of an operator?

I thought about maybe using an envelope to modulate the pitch of the operator slightly to cause a phase shift.

Has anyone put a small headphone amp and jack in their PreenFM2?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / FM filter sweep
« on: November 23, 2019, 11:50:31 PM »
I made an FM "filter sweep" pad, that has a resonant filter sweep sound, but does not use a filter. I thought I would share. See attached.

It is saved in the editor format. Use the editor to load it.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / external filter
« on: April 25, 2019, 04:46:24 AM »
Is it possible to send a control voltage from the preen FM2 to another device like a filter? and store that value in the patch?

Would it require adding extra circuitry?

I was thinking it would be cool to add on an external analog filter, like maybe a comb filter or something, that I could sweep.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Feature Request: option to change LED function
« on: November 11, 2018, 02:37:19 AM »
I was wondering if it was possible to change the LED's function from blinking with the MIDI clock to blinking with LFO 1 on Instrument 1 (or LFO2 etc)? I don't see this as an option in the current firmware. But think it would be a nice addition.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Reverb Algorithms
« on: January 03, 2018, 12:32:00 AM »
Has any tried programing a reverb FX for the Preen FM2? Or would it require too much memory?

I was looking at a few algorithms and was wondering if a simple IIR Filter followed by a simple low pass filter (to make it sound less metallic) would be doable?

IIR filter: http://www.eas.uccs.edu/~mwickert/ece5655/lecture_notes/ARM/ece5655_chap7.pdf

I was thinking this may require less ram than the Freeverb that was mentioned in another thread.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Patches
« on: December 09, 2017, 08:22:42 PM »
Here are a couple of patches I made, trying to do various dubstep style growls. I used the Preen FM 2 editor.

On dub Growl 4 I used the Free Envelope 1 to modulate the Sample Rate of the Crush FX.
Also, I used the waveform TX45 from one of the other posts as Shape 5.

It made me wish that I could modulate the attack of the Free Envelope 1 with Velocity. I also want to look into writing a regular type distortion FX.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Frequency

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a technical reason the Frequency for the Operators was limited to a maximum of 16 and not 24?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Riser FX patches
« on: October 12, 2017, 02:41:00 AM »
I made a couple of Riser FX type patches you can load using the PreenFM2 Editor. Note: use the mod wheel to make it "rise."
This is a great synth.
