preenfm2 and preenfm3 / PreenFM2 on stage!
« on: November 20, 2018, 01:46:28 PM »
Hope this doesn't look more like a show-off than a share, but yesterday I played at the Olympia in Paris, and this was my setup <3
I was so happy to finally perform with those home made synths that I had at home for years but were most of the time turned down for concerts in the favor of a computer!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / PreenFM2 in recordings ;)
« on: March 19, 2016, 02:48:16 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm playing in this super-guitar-band called Castus. It's called after the family name of the founder of the band, who used to play short & funny guitar loops but decided to stop the live-looping and ask friends to play all the small riffs here and there, so that we are now 5 guitars, bass and drums.

I helped him to record his last album and managed to sneak into it some Shruthi and PreenFM2. So far we just released one track, in which you can hear (quite in the back I have to admit) a melody doubled by the PreenFM2, which starts around 2min06.

The funky riff starting at 1min24 is processed through the Shruthi, as well as the ending eBow guitars at 2min58 that kinda sound like accordions.

Anyways I hope you guys like it. If anyone is in Brussels on April 6th we are playing to celebrate the release of the record.

I actually worked with another band, more pop, in which the PreenFM2 is more obvious when it's there, but it's not released yet.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / A messy bank with this and that...
« on: January 31, 2015, 03:02:26 PM »
Although it's a mess, I feel like sharing some presets that I use. I didn't come up with all of them: some of them are straight DX7/sysex imports, others copycats of DX7 presets, some inspired by the default presets of the Shruthi (4 & 15) and there is also a preset that widdly shared on the forums (12 & 16).

Those are keyboard playing oriented. I recommend using reverb, I have a TC Hall of Fame and an echo, it helps a lot.

I hope people who know the DX7 will recognize patches 36, 38, 41, 42 and 43, as those are copies from the ROM1A presets. Importing sysex was not providing great results (as Xavier mentions on the website the point is more to start working on sound rather than getting accomplished patches), so I used the freeware "DX7 Librarian" to check out how they were made. I also used this video as a reference for 36 & 38 mainly.

The presets that I came up with and use often would be 1, 8, 11.

The rest are mainly sysex imports. I often use 33.

As you can see most of them are pretty soft on the FM side ;)
Some of them have mod wheel / pitch bend / performance pots active, some others don't.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / M4L Performance controller (V1.0 released)

PreenFM2 - Performance V1.0

Voilà, it's on the MaxForLive website now: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2781/preenfm2-performance

Original post:

Hey,

I just started a M4L controller for the PreenFM2. It's just supposed to be a one way Live > PreenFM2 thing to make automations or control with an automapped controller. So the point is not to do an editor (as the one provided works perfectly) but more of a performance. In fact so far I just put the Performance pots, which is already quite enough to have some fun!

For the design I went with the classical Live9 / M4L style. I kinda like it. I'm not sure I manage to put the logo within the patch… if someone downloads it can you please check if the Logo appears?

Xavier, let me know what information you want to appear on the window (your name, etc…), so that when I'm a bit further I will put it on the M4L website. Any credit for the logo?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / A new PreenFM2 is born!

Some friends heard that I was having fun with my PreenFM2 so they asked me to put one together for them. It should soon be rocking on stage I hope :)

Here are some pictures of the build, with a big THANK YOU to Xavier for his support, as always!

Hello everyone,

My name is Clément, I'm from France but relocated for a few years in Brussels.
I put my PreenFM2 (got the metal box kit) yesterday and could not stop playing with it since! I can not say how much I am pleased and impressed by everything. The design of the case if wonderful it's amazing to have such a nice piece of equipment kinda half DIY. The sound is great, the navigation easy and the program on the computer makes it even easier to create sounds, even for a total FM noob like me ;)

Since I completely fell in love after such a short time of using it, I also have to report something that is bugging me, and I haven't seen this problem reported so far…

I have a high frequency parasite, kinda like this more or less 15kHz old TVs were producing. It's not that loud, be enough to drive me crazy and not to use it on stage.

I tried all kinds of plugging, with & without USB, power adapter, and even a 9V battery, so I'm 99% sure it comes from the PreenFM.

It's here always at the same volume wether I turn the Vol knob up or down, so I would guess it's not exactly on the signal path, but more in the Ground?

Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what could be the source of this parasite?

And here's a picture of my build, just for the pleasure :)
