preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: PreenFM3 Questions
« on: September 14, 2020, 09:36:18 AM »
Awesome to see further development!

FX per voice, great! Could it be possible to switch FX routings from 1FX/voice to stack of 6FX on master out? Or even some sort of bus routing with FX stacking so output pairs could make up stereo pair? Or are the outputs already stereo?

Sorry for avalanche of questions. Keep up the good work!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Linking/chaining two (or more) PreenFM2s?
« on: April 28, 2020, 09:45:13 AM »
Sorry if this was asked before but search doesn't give any relevant results on 'linking' or 'chaining'.

Purely hypothetically, if I MIDI chain two (or more) PreenFM2s and enable sending out CCs and NRPMs, will the second one respond to edit changes from the first one? I.e. will editing Instrument 1 be mirrored on the second unit?

Thanks for any insights!

I'm toying with the idea of chaining two units to get more MPE voices, using the same patches on all timbres/Instruments.

No worries about RelVel  ;) and thanks a lot for the effort!

Wow, big things are happening here. You guys rock!

Can I kindly ask for Release Velocity as another mod source, please? One can do quite funky stuff with it. Thanks in advance for even just considering the idea. Cheers!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: New filters
« on: January 14, 2020, 08:52:02 PM »
Thanks to everyone who contributed into this thread and especially to Toltekradiation and Xavier for bringing in new filters. I just learned recently about this development and it made me to get my 3rd PreenFM2 (sold the first two but always come back to this eternal love affair  ;D).
They sound really good and profoundly enhance the sonic potential.

After checking them all I've realized it would be great to have the second filter parameter available as destination in mod matrix as well because on some filter types it seems the cutoff sits on the second position (correct me if I'm wrong). But having the resonance (or others) under modulation control would be awesome. I have a vague feeling there was some performance limitation in the past that didn't allow this. Has anything changed with new, more efficient filters in this regard?

Edit: I forgot to add that I love now how the Gain parameter distorts the signal nicely when cranked up. Great work!

Edit2: OK, found the answer here.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Preenfm2 with Roli Seaboard
« on: January 14, 2020, 08:41:52 AM »
It’s possible to assign PitchBend, Aftertouch, ModWheel and CC74 in mod matrix. So you adjust these to your liking, reduce the voice allocation to 1, then save the patch and load it to remaining 3 Instruments which respond to different MIDI channels and you have a 4 voice MPE Combo. It works nicely with Linnstrument which AFAIK is more flexible than Seaboard configuration-wise. I’m using ModWheel on Y-axis instead of MPEs default CC74 since most of the hardware synths and their patches already have interesting modulations bound to it.

Xavier, I know it's not a lot but I would pay 50 EUR for just for getting the Pitchbend properly implemented on PreenFM2. Would that motivate you to spend some effort on this? Thanks for all your great work!

Xavier, thanks for your reply.
I understand that Pitchband is specific MIDI control type with higher resolution then regular CC's. Different synths have different maximum PB ranges. Some have only 2 semitones, others up to 24 semitones PB range or more, often definable as a part of individual patch/sound. Linnstrument has no PB wheel but you can slide horizontally with your fingers over several pads, generating standard PB control messages. Linnstrument allows you to define the maximum PB range and if it corresponds to the synth range setting you'll get consistent PB response - 1 pad = 1 semitone so you can play continuous PB slides chromatically.
I was kind of suspecting that the PB response of PFM2 is not a simple affair as it is in the very nature of FM to produce inharmonic frequencies easily.
Thanks in advance for any effort!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / [Resolved in 2.05B4] Pitchbend response?
« on: June 12, 2016, 09:00:10 AM »
Hi,

I've built my second PreenFM2 kit, this time no single issue. Thanks to Xavier and Van Daal Electronics!

I'm using it with Linnstrument which allows Pitchbends up/down to +24/-24 semitones. My finding is that PreenFM2 has non-linear Pitchbend response. It bends down much faster then bending up from center position.

My setting in Modulation matrix:
Pitchbend > 10.00 > o*Fq

Linnstrument Pitchbend setting:
+-12 semitones (I've tried 10 semitones and other values too but not getting me any closer)

I still have to experiment more with this. Could it be that the operator's frequency (PB * Matrix multiplier) just doesn't correspond to any musical intervals (i.e. notes)?

Is there a way to set the Pitchbend response to a standard musical range in semitones?

How exactly is the Pitchbend value coming from the controller used in the Modulation matrix formula?

Thanks a lot in advance for any insights.

P.S.: PreenFM2 already is awesome with expressive possibilities of Linnstrument! FM comes alive under your fingers (Velocity+ModWheel + Aftertouch on every single pad!)

It seems to be USB2 device.

I've formatted above mentioned 1GB stick to FAT32 as I read somewhere else on this forum that FAT16 was not working for someone.

Later I also tried to play with amount of free MB's before and after the main partition on USB drive. No effect either. My working stick was formatted with free 8 MB before and after the partition - my usual best practice with bigger drives.

That 1GB Transcend is say 5-6 years old although not very used.

Thanks for the push in right direction. It was Transcend JF V30/1GB stick. Now I tried new SanDisk 64 GB and it boots fine  :D
Will try to search for other smaller sticks.

Thanks again!

Edit: I don't seem to be able edit the title of the thread, could Mod(s) add [SOLVED] to it? Thanks.

« on: July 06, 2014, 02:00:17 AM »
Hi,
it's late here. I've finished the mainboardand, all chips are in, JMP3 is free, USB stick is formated to FAT32 and contains pfm2 folder with hopefully all files (as extracted from .zip). After plugging the USB the LED's blink shortly and display shows only yellow rectangles. Same behavior when USB stick is unplugged. I guess it's some stupid mistake on my side or something overlooked. I'll try to post pics tomorrow but perhaps sombody can give me a hint what to check. Thanks a lot in advance!
