Haha! I will put it on GitHub eventually, but I need to add a few things first... Hopefully sometime this winter.

Just a quick note to let you know that I am performing with the PreenFM2 at the Irish Sound, Science and Technology Association (ISSTA). In fact, the PreenFM2 will be my ONLY sound source during the performance. I have designed a Max for Live patch that allows me to degrade, morph, and/or scramble sets of parameters on the synth. This is similar to a device I designed for the Yamaha TX81Z. This process creates an algorithmic approach to the sound design. I wrote more about it here:

https://audiocookbook.org/issta-2018-and-ableton-10-nrpn-morphing/

And there's an audio teaser for the performance here:

Thanks again, Xavier for creating and maintaining such a special instrument!

Cheers, Xavier! It has been a distinct pleasure and privilege to experiment with the PreenFM2. I'm convinced there's a lot yet to mine from it. Especially with all the updates and improvements you've been applying!

As promised... Here's 17 minutes of the PreenFM2 doing it's thing while connected to my patch. I mixed a few different takes in and out for variety and added some reverb and sweetening in post. All the panning was handled by the patch. Essentially a single chord is played repeatedly while the parameters are morphed. Many simultaneously on multiple threads. I adjusted which parameters were being morphed and the morph rate as the recordings were being made. Listen for sweeping frequencies, panning, and modulation (I used four of the mod slots). Most of the time I had the filter off but I enabled in a few times. You'll hear the crusher, LP, HP, etc. I also experimented with leaving the operator waveforms as sine wave and them allowing them to change. I have all six user waveforms configured in my PreenFM2. Enjoy!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Temporal Patch Morphing for the PreenFM2
« on: November 02, 2017, 12:49:50 AM »
Hi all,

I'm currently working on a Temporal Patch Morpher for the PreenFM2, similar to my TX81z Patch Degrader (https://audiocookbook.org/tx81z-patch-degrader-with-interpolation/), but better because of greater value ranges within NRPN and the PreenFM2 handles much faster streams of MIDI data (also 6 ops and 12 mod matrix slots! -- so far I'm only using the first four).

It's essentially a Max4Live patch that interpolates parameter values. This happens over time units that can either sync to Ableton Live, or be free running between 15 and 2000ms. Virtually every parameter can be included in the morphing, or left out via a checkbox. I've been getting some really incredible results using this thing, so I'll share some sounds in the near future, and perhaps the patch once it's finished.

Here's a screenshot of the work-in-progress to give you a rough idea of what it does. More soon!

Cheers!

John

Excited to try this, especially the new LFO frequency range! Well done, and thanks, Xavier!

Of course, Xavier! It's always a pleasure when I get to do sound design with my PreenFM2!

So, I said I've give this a go when I had a couple of spare hours, so here's what I came up with:

If anyone wants the patch, I've attached the sysex for it.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Simulating Karplus Strong with PreenFM2
« on: May 01, 2017, 07:45:02 PM »
Hi all,

I'm quite fond of the sound of Karplus Strong synthesis, but don't have any hardware that can "officially" do it. I've gotten some similar plucky vibrations out of the PreenFM2 without actually trying to simulate Karplus Strong. SO, It seems like the PreenFM2 might be pretty good at getting something that resembles Karplus Strong using FM and perhaps even using custom waveforms. I'm gonna take a crack at this when I have a spare couple of hours and share what I come up with. In the meantime does anyone have any thoughts on how to approach this problem?

Cheers!

John
