I thought of that because navigating with the reversed encoders would be confusing.

If it is that simple yes. Perhaps hold a button on start up to "toggle" between the two modes?

As a "no solder" solution you can put a right angle pin header on the display, run a ribbon cable under the PCB and connect to a pin header there?

The only think you can say against Leaf Labs is their flow of stock isn't very consistent.

It's one of my favourite synths. It makes sounds no other virtual or real analog can.

If they are reversed you can always patch it on the PCB so as not to need to build your own firmware.

So is it working now or not?

This is the one big problem with ARM boards, availability is so tricky and some are proprietary or closed (Raspberry Pi).

I used some Bourns I have which have a switch and they work fine.

Two working preens and a 3rd one in progress (I ordered 1 PCB and got a freebie). I'm going to give one to a musician friend.

Three Shruthis, 1 x Programmer with Polivoks and SMR4, 1 x 4 Pole Mission, 1 x Digital FX board. I have a CEM board and one with SSM which I've given to a friend.

1 x Ambika with 3 voice cards, another 3 voicecard PCBs on the way.

SammichSID and MB8562.

I started to build the Midibox-FM and have a working one, just no buttons or LEDs. Lost interest in building that lol.

True. But then I like red instead of blue :)

My SLR always seems to make everything look so much nicer than it is.

Well, alternative is right if you only can build one. But I think once you have built one it becomes addictive, it's a very small club of a few hundred people and the only other way to be a member of such a small bunch is to own some very expensive synth or a rare modular.

Ambika was a really easy build, everything on the main board is spaced out and easy to do. The voice cards are small PCBs and are therefore easy to work with too. I want all six :)

I had a new top made to suit my OLED.

Well I think it's not an alternative, as people should own both PreenFM and a Shruthi-1 (and the new Ambika when that is officially released).

The guy who wrote it is an ex-C64 musician. He's on the Mutable forum, seems a nice guy anyway. I just hope he builds a Preen, it would be nice to read about it.

I've just finished another Preen board, one more to go :)

There's a review of the Shruth-1 in SoundOnSound magazine and the PreenFM is mentioned as another DIY kit.

Sadly they wrote that it uses a Yamaha FM chip (they must be getting confused with the MIDIBox OPL stuff) and it's a lot more interesting than Yamaha FM.

You have to buy the full review (£0.99) or the magazine to read it all.
