PreenFM2 / Re: Only 4 voices? / No 0 velocity? / Arturia Keystep problem
« on: October 18, 2018, 09:49:57 AM »
Hi,

Video is a unusual way to ask questions  :)

1. Voices are shared among the 4 instruments.
What you see on the screen is the number of voices for the instrument you currently edit : #3 in you video.
If you want more voices for I3, you have to reduce the number of voices of other instruments.
    More info here :
    http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/synth-edit-mode/

2. Velocity
If set to zero, volume is not impacted by velocity.
But the different modulation indices can still be.
Search for "v is the amount of modulation that is injected by the velocity of the note you pressed." in the above manual.

3.  Maybe your keyboard send program change.
Try to disable program change in the menu.
     Search for "Settings" here :
     http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/menu-mode/

PreenFM2 / Re: Inconsistent sound with certain algorithms [Fix pending]
« on: October 14, 2018, 09:12:53 PM »

Wow impressive test  ;)
OK i also fixed alg11 and alg16 in the attached firmware.
If you're into code here is the change :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/commit/1eefac254cdd65e0d54e67375ed608216a6c25d9

Thanks again for your test and report :)

In real FM you have to  add a high pass for operator in the middle of a cascade.
Without that, the final carrier is pitched shifted.
So in Algo1, op2 is high passed which caused this difference.
Keeping your same values, you won't here any difference if you use Op1 & Op3.

Thanks again for the detailed post.

I think i have a fix for these problems.
Some variables that must be 0 at the beginig of a note,  were not correctly reset at the end of previous note. Specially audible when carrier releast time is 0.

Please, can you confirm the attached firmware fix that ?
(It also fixes the other bug you reported with op1 release time of default combo always 2.56).

To flash, upload and flash the firmware through the bootloader is the quickest solution :

Thanks

Thanks for the report, i'll take a look at that.

Very nice :)
Thanks a lot for sharing.
Seems like this Chris Calcutt took his preenfm2 with him during his SLMK3 tour. I saw it on several other video.

Sounds interesting, but would be more the role of a midi processor before reaching the preenfm.

Thanks a lot for the post and the update.

I have to try to exactly understand what instability you talked about, but it seems OK in your last post :)

You can definitely get some weird behaviour with release time, specially when some release levels are not 0.0.

Hi,

I think you can try by reading this thread :
http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=63509.0
And having a look a the schema in Reply#6 to double check all the soldering junction of the audio path.

Thanks for the report and for taking the time to take pictures.
I'll take a look when i have time...

Thanks a lot for this message  :)

Anyone who doesn’t use the randomization feature please needs to.

I totally agree with this  ;)

I'm afraid there's nothing for a quick save when you load preset with program change....
(which i agree is not very cool).

PreenFM2 / Re: Octatrack and Preen Combo Change
« on: July 31, 2018, 12:19:29 PM »
Hello,

"Program change" loads Single Preset, combo or DX7 preset depending on the values of Bank select (CC#0) and Bank Select LSB (#32) it received before.

Combo can be received on any midi channel instrument : 1 to 4 by default.
It then replaces all 4 instruments.

Single preset and DX7 preset replaces the instrument of the midi channel recevied.

I agree it's not very straightforward. Specially because Bank Select and Bank Select LSB are stored independently for each instrument :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/blob/feb79fb2b4a03e4668ef5e8ef2540f42f0b25f6c/src/midi/MidiDecoder.cpp#L325?ts=4

If you can, try to send Bank select (CC#0), Bank Select LSB (#32) and program change each time you want to load a new preset or combo.

If that does not work let me know exactly what you send, what behaviour you have, and what you would expect.

Thanks

Hi,

You should be able to press "menu" several times in a row, and it should repeat the same command as the previous time.
So once you select Save + bank + your preset, "Menu" is the only button to press for the next save of the same preset.

(I cannot verify now, but i think if you just load a preset, the SAVE action you do just after will select by default the same bank and presets)

Hope that makes sense ?

PreenFM2 / Re: High frequency tone coming from hardware itself!
« on: July 23, 2018, 10:43:21 PM »
Hi! I've seen plenty of people in this forum complain about a high frequency tone coming from the audio out of their preenfm2, but I couldn't find any thread related to this issue...
Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi,

The main thread is here :

Hi,

Nice to read you enjoy your preenfm2  :)
There a patch structure schema here :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/synth-edit-mode/
(3rd image of the page : "Workflow of the PreenFM2 sound generation").

But it seems like you look for something more detailed than this.

Don't forget to share if you make one yourself,
Thanks,

Xavier
