PreenFM2 / Re: quick save?

I'm afraid there's nothing for a quick save when you load preset with program change....
(which i agree is not very cool).

Hello,

"Program change" loads Single Preset, combo or DX7 preset depending on the values of Bank select (CC#0) and Bank Select LSB (#32) it received before.

Combo can be received on any midi channel instrument : 1 to 4 by default.
It then replaces all 4 instruments.

Single preset and DX7 preset replaces the instrument of the midi channel recevied.

I agree it's not very straightforward. Specially because Bank Select and Bank Select LSB are stored independently for each instrument :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/blob/feb79fb2b4a03e4668ef5e8ef2540f42f0b25f6c/src/midi/MidiDecoder.cpp#L325?ts=4

If you can, try to send Bank select (CC#0), Bank Select LSB (#32) and program change each time you want to load a new preset or combo.

If that does not work let me know exactly what you send, what behaviour you have, and what you would expect.

Thanks

Hi,

You should be able to press "menu" several times in a row, and it should repeat the same command as the previous time.
So once you select Save + bank + your preset, "Menu" is the only button to press for the next save of the same preset.

(I cannot verify now, but i think if you just load a preset, the SAVE action you do just after will select by default the same bank and presets)

Hope that makes sense ?

PreenFM2 / Re: High frequency tone coming from hardware itself!

Hi! I've seen plenty of people in this forum complain about a high frequency tone coming from the audio out of their preenfm2, but I couldn't find any thread related to this issue...
Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi,

The main thread is here :

Hi,

Nice to read you enjoy your preenfm2  :)
There a patch structure schema here :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/synth-edit-mode/
(3rd image of the page : "Workflow of the PreenFM2 sound generation").

But it seems like you look for something more detailed than this.

Don't forget to share if you make one yourself,
Thanks,

Hi,
The audio path goes through the solder points "circled" in orange.

Thanks  :)

I haven't touched the USB/midi for a while but I think what you describe should work.
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/blob/master/src/usb/usbd_midi_core.c?ts=4#L242
Have you enabled "midi thru" in the settings ?

Thanks for the details.
Looks like the midi are sent too quickly to the preen and that it misses some bytes.

Out of curiosity, is the behaviour the same by using the midi DIN5 in/out ?

That won't solve the bug, but i'm wondering why you have to push the patch to the preenfm2 ?
Usage should be :
. Have a patch you want to edit on you preen
. Pull it to the editor
. Every editor (or preenfm2) modification should be propagated to the preenfm2 (or editor).

Hi,

Do you use the standalone editor ? or plugin ?
What platform ?
Do you have reproducible steps ? Or a preset that fails..

To reset the preenfm2 audio when notes are stuck press : INST+MENU

Thanks,
Xavier

PreenFM2 / Re: Problem starting PreenFM2

Now I don't know what I'm talking about obviously, but: Would it make sense to have the screen say "Reading USB..." instead of just blocks at that point, so that it is obvious that the problem is USB related?

When i wrote this part of code i didn't expect the USB reading to fail with some USB stick.
But that's a good point ;)

....I cannot boot normally, I just get the full blocks in the OLED. I have a self-made preen405....

The full blocks in the display are displayed by the firmwre.
It freeze here if the firmware cannot access the USB drive.
2 possiblities : you didn't t have the expected "/pfm2/" folder or your USB stick is not readable by the preenfm2.

Hi,

I think it's not very clear from the doc.
You first select the bank once.
Then, use program changes to trigger a preset load from the selected bank.

Chosing the bank is done through regular CC.
If you want the first bank of combo :
Send 1 to CC#0 (Combo)
Send 0 to CC#32 (Combo bank number).

Then sending program change will load combo from the first bank of your combo bank.

But i  have no idea how to send that from the octatrack.
And i still haven't looked at what Lokki did exactly for program change, so i cannot comment  ;)

Hi,

interesting question.  ;)

I had to make some research.
This is the first thread (in french) that talks about the prrenfm(1).
https://fr.audiofanzine.com/les-mains-dans-le-cambouis/forums/t.455267,preenfm-diy-synthe-fm.html
First kits of this first version were available in december 2011.

2 years later in november 2013, i released the preenfm2 (which uses a much more powerfull CPU) with a beta version of the firmware.

Waiting for your video :)

PreenFM2 / Re: Any way to get LFOs and ADSRs out of the preenfm2?
« on: May 16, 2018, 10:27:40 PM »

Hello,
Analog outputs are not wired to the PCB. So it's not possible in the current state to output any signal other than the audio.
