PreenFM2 / Re: any way to select timbres via midi?
« on: May 19, 2019, 10:20:15 PM »
I can imagine a problem with that idea:  I'm sequencing all four timbres simultaneously, usually with some cc automation. This would probably result in the screen just flitting between timbres with each channel's most recent cc event, no?

Yes, not very convenient.

would it be possible to add a dedicated cc message for switching timbres? how intensive would it be to implement such a thing?

That's the second part of my previous reply  ;)
I think it would be easier to remember the 4 instruments  or to press the "Inst" button.

I guess I phrased the question badly.. whay I'm asking is whether there's a way to select which voice is showing on screen via midi message.

If not, any idea if this might be possible to implement?

No there is nothing to do that.
Maybe the easiest way would be to switch to the last instrument that was updated by midi.
Should be a modification here :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/blob/master/src/hardware/FMDisplay.cpp?ts=4#L637
Would need to call newTimbre(timbre) in a else condition, and see what happen...  ;)
I just worry when several instruments are updated at the same time.

To have a dedicated CC to change current timbre, that should be implemented  in the midi decoder class:
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/blob/master/src/midi/MidiDecoder.cpp
But it would required a little code to propagate the new current timbre.

for this:

already lost my data from sequencer, laptop died on me half a year ago too.
so yea, im pretty desperate right now.

 :o
I can send a USB key for free if you haven't ordered it yet... Let me know.  ;)

I don't understand why you need the EXACT same USB stick.
Anyway, most of them are ARETOP 1Gb or 2Gb Usb key.

but a failing regulator shouldnt destroy usb stick that easy...

It depends on what broker the regulator. A too high voltage could leak to the 5v pin and goes directly to the USB stick  :(

ill need a link for that usb stick so i can swap the nand, if i lost all my work, im dead

I don't understand what you need here.

on screen are just squares... indeed regulator shows 0 to little volts!

EDIT: the diode under the regulator is shorted, gonna take one leg out, and see whats there

EDIT2: swapped the regulator and the preenfm turns on, but still only squares on the screen

Only square on the screen means there's a problem with the USB stick.
Get your stick, put it in a computer, backup your banks from it if you can.
Then format it again and fill the pfm2/ directory with the file from this zip :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/releases/download/2.08/pfm2_usb.zip

Hi,

Check JMP1 is on, and verify the voltage at the 7805 pins.

"The LCD will only turn on when i try to power the module from usb"

So what do you see on the LCD in this case ?

Have you try entering bootloader mode by pressing a key while powering it on.

Xavier, this looks awesome. I’ve been contemplating a Preen for a bit and would love one to be able to interface with my modular. However I waited so long I’m mow a bit short on space!

Will the standalones be sold assembled individually? Or only as a DIY?

Thanks but I have nothing to do with this hardware variant. This is the work of Ardi from Van Daal Electronics (aka 'served')  ;)

PreenFM2 / Re: PreenF405 VCC Pin 64 / C1 Airwire
« on: May 05, 2019, 05:58:07 PM »
Yes seems like VCC does not reach pin 64 of the MCU.
The 3 other VCC pins are enough to power correctly the stm32F4 as it's very stable in a preenfm2 usage.

Eagle 6.5.0 that i used for this PCB does not complain when runing DRC .

Thanks for the suggestions.

Algorithm and oscillator shape controled by matrix would lead to audio glitch (in a bad way such as digital "click") , so i don't think it's a good idea to have it as part of the "out of the box" engine.
Triggering the enveloppe with other LFO value is not easy.

And i admit having all free envelope parameters would be cool  ;)

PreenFM2 / Re: schematic screenshot or pdf?
« on: May 04, 2019, 08:47:23 PM »
Hi,

I just added a pdf file in the git repository that was missing for a long time.
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/blob/master/hardware/PCB_R5d/PreenFM.pdf

If you want help from this forum, you should post a detailed picture of your PCB both side, as weel as a clear descritpion of what you're doing and what does not work.

And from the FAQ :

TroubleShooting / It does not work
You can start by reading this thread :
http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=63509.0
And verify the different points shown of message #6.

PreenFM2 / Re: external filter
« on: April 26, 2019, 01:08:25 PM »
Hi,
No there's no CV out from the preenfm2. Neither anything close to it.
It would require a different mapping of the CPU pins in the main PCB and in the preenF405 so that we can use a internal DAC or maybe a PWM with Low pass filter.

The firmware version P2_209AO.BIN cannot be used with the rebuild,
the modification is not implemented.
Version P2_209A.BIN has this implementation.

Really ?  ???
I cannot check this week as i'm far from home.
Can be a mistake when building the zip file.

I'm not a power supply splecialist  ;)
But 'center negative' sounds wrong.
Luckily most of the power supply are 'center positive'.
