Have you tried with a standalone USB power supply such as one for tablet/smartphone ?
Or with a 9V power supply ?

You can plug directly a headset to one of the audio output to check the sound quality.

Hi,
OK it's a CERB40.
Seems like there's a problem with the internal mini USB cable....

Can you post a picture of your PCB + CERB40 inserted ?
Thanks

Hi,

First check that it's not just a problem of setting that have been reset.
Is the USB over midi enabled ?
Read part 3 here :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/menu-mode/
(But as you say USB stick is not visible through the boot loader mode, i doubt...).

Look at the schema in this thread
http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=69270.0
and check the external USB is still connected to the pin 38 and 39 of the preenF405... (I assume you have a preenF405 and not a CERB40 MCU board)

There's no USB specific chip, USB devices are integrated in the main MCU (microcontroller unit / stm32F4)
There are 2 : 1 for the external USB and one for the USB stick.
I never saw a broken USB on a working MCU.
If that appears to be the case, then you have to change the whole preenF405.

Hi Sammy,

Firmware 1.B7 ? Ouch !
Flashing the firmware is the first thing you should do.
Download latest firmware 2.07, put it on the USB stick (can be done without opening it with firmware 1.10) and flash it.
It's explained here : http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/upgrade-firmware/

The very first version of the preenfm2 had a volume that can be noisy when you turn it.

Do you power it through USB ?
If yes, try an other one, some are noisy.

Hi Thierry,

There is a "Dec*" destination for "all enveloppe decay" available since firmware 2.05.

Are you talking about something else ?

Thanks a lot to share this.
Very interesting reading and tool !

And of course glad to read you enjoy your preenfm2 :)

Doh!

I thought it was only used to flash the bootloader....

I have many of this DIY mini USB connectors, PM me if you need one.

I built it and flashed its bootloader to v1.11 a few months ago with the mini-usb.

I just realized you wrote "Mini-USB" ?
So you have a CERB40 cpu board ?

You need a wire to link the case USB to the CERB40 mini USB.
Search for CERB40 in this old-PCB page :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/build-it/the-pcb/

actually it was xavier (as usual) that posted the right schematic. i was just doing stupid copying of a GitHub link. :-)

You made me realize i still haven't put the real PCB on github  ;)

Hi,

Is the USB midi enabled ?
See 3.1 here, first setting :

Lokki, this is the preenF405 schema, aka the MCU/CPU board  ;)

Kirkwood, I still have to put the PCB in the github repository.
In the meantime you can download it from the download page on the preenfm2 site.
Here is the PCB dirrect download link :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7k68bagutq6ri52/PreenFM2_R5c_Kicad.tgz?dl=1
You'll need kicad (http://kicad-pcb.org/) to load the project.

I attached a png that may help you.
Jumpers should work.

I don't think you can have broken anything.

No, the RAM is integrated in the CPU.

Interesting question   :)
The user waveforms are loaded from the USB drive to the RAM when booting.
The limit is the available RAM of the CPU so i'm afraid it cannot be discussed ;)
The waveform is not stored with the preset, if you use a user waveform and modify it, that will modify your how your presets sound.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Tuning issues
« on: March 29, 2017, 10:05:03 PM »

Not sure what it is.
Can be the preset that modify the tune over time.. When play one by one it's detuned, when played together it's tune.
Can you share your preset ?
Easiest way is to savethe default combo : Menu>save>deflt>Save.

Then plug the USB to your computer. Swith the preenfm2 on while pressing ENG. Press ENG again to access the stick from you computer.
The USB stick should be visible from your windows/mac/Linux machine.
And share here your /pfm2/DFLTCMBO.pfm.
That's the combo loaded when you boot.

Thanks

A pure sin played alone can be noisy at low volume.

Set voice to 1 in Instrument 1, chose algo 1, and Mix1 to 1.00
Set it to 0 for instrument you don't use. I2, I3, I4.
And set Velo to 0. So that the wave is always at max volume.
If the sin is now OK then you have a normal behaviour.

All is digital and done on 18bits....
So the more voice you add the lower definition you'll have per voice or per carrier operator.
What you hear is the limit of the DAC.
But if you optimize by reducing the voices to the number of voices you really use, it should be fine.
