I think the difference between the USB and the DC in is only because of the difference of voltage they provide.
USB is often a bit less than 4.8V.
On top of that USB often adds noise that reach the audio path...

Before trying the shield, make sure you solder a 22 ohm resistor in the "oled" resistor slot on the PCB.

No there is not way to add folder structure.
You can copy up to 256 files (of 32 DX7 presets), other files will be ignored.
Then the preenfm sort them by alphabetical order.
While choosing your bank, use the 4 encoders. The one to the right will increase/decrease faster the bank number.

And once you have a nice sounding DX7 patch, don't forget to add a touch of stereo and use the randomizer, all set to "Keep" except 'modul' to add a bit of preenfm modulation  ;)
Then save it under a preenfm bank to store the new sound.
The DX7 import is limited, and i think it's best used as a starting point to create more interesting sound.

Good to read you solve the OLED problem.

2.3. Can you insert a spectrum analyser (such as the free voxengo span) and let me know the frequency of the high pitch noise you hear.
If it's 15Khz, then you may want to add a shield such as explained in the oled mod thread. (No need to do the rest of the mod with PCB revision R5d if you inserted a 22R in the resistor slot called "OLED".)

When your use the USB AND a DC in power supply you have to remove the Jmp2 jumper. Is it your case ?
(removing Jmp2 prevent the USB 5V from arriving into the circuit as the DC in already provide currant).

The boot sound is a setting option, take a look at 3.1 here :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/menu-mode/

P.S. I don't know what images you tried to post but i cannot see them.

Hi,

1. Seems like you have a soldering problem somewhere. Shortcut or missing point ?
You can start by follow the voltage verification in the reply #6 of this thread :
http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=63509.0

2. Can be your USB power supply. Some are very noisy. If the sound is always the same with different ones, can come from 1.

3. And not with USB ?
The preenfm2 audio is not balanced, so if your audio card expect balanced audio, the balanced cable can catch RF noise.

4. I forgot to add a little paper in the last kits i sent. On it is the URL of the manual and build instruction. In case you didn't find it :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/synth-edit-mode/
For each of the 4 instruments, the polyphony is the number of voices you set. Set polyphony to 0 for instruments you don't use is a good best practice.

Let me know how it goes,
Best,

Xavier

Hi,

1 ) For controller i think the midibox site is a good ressource to start :
http://www.ucapps.de/
Look at the controller project.

2/first 3) Midi is managed by what is called USART . Yes there are several USART available in the STM32F405 (MCU used by the preenfm2).
I don't have in mind if the other USART MCU pins are exposed through the preenF405.
You'll have to do a bit of research ;)
It's not complicated to have the MCU listen to several USART at the same time. The midi part of the PCB will have to be doubled though (6N137 and the few resistors).

Second 3) I don't understand. Isn't you keyboard midi already ?
If not, go there : http://www.ucapps.de/midio128.html
If yes why do you want the preenfm2 to do that ? Cannot the keyboard send midi information ?

The only folder you should see on your USB stick is "/pfm2/".
Everything is inside.
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/usb-drive/

If you skiped the "/pfm2/" folder, that can explain your problem.

Hi Alex,

What USB stick do you use ?

Try to format it again, then copy back the /pfm2/* directory.
If that still does not work, try with another USB key.

I just uploaded the preenF405 schematic here :

I don't understand your "minimum system" question.

You can start with the zip file from previous page.
It contains the bootlooder 1.11 (latest version) and an old firmware but that will allow you to setup and check your hardware.

I'll try to compile Norbim's latest firmware later.

Let us know how the build goes,

Hi,

1) I'm almost sure the answer is yes, as there's not reason the low level display code has been changed.
And the preenfm2 works with regular LCD.

2) No. Norbim's firmware uses the DAC of the discovery and different pins for devices.
But i just noticed the firmware is regularly updated on https://github.com/norbim1/preenFM2
Nice job by the way :)

is the fading time handled in env.h? (ca. line 190) i saw that you changed it in beta 2.05b3. and because there is a 6 in it i thought i ask ;) i also changed the 6 to 2 and 1 and could not really hear a difference (with my monoponic patches)

Yes that's it.
I changed it from 8 to 6 while playing with your pure data patch as it minimised the number of ignored notes.
I remember having patches where i could hear the difference between 8 and 4.

1243

No problem, that was a very interesting reading.

I didn't even know the name of that kind of clicks : "note stealing clicks".

> "Some japanese manufacturers (I don't say names here) prevent voice stealing clicks by fading out voices slowly before they start new notes. "

That's exactly what i do, during 6 * 32 samples, which add 5ms of latency when a note "steal" the voice of an other note.
The guy concludes it leads to "very bad MIDI timing".
I never heard anyone complaining about that.
But i think many would complain about the "stealing clicks"  ;)

1244
I'm not sure we talk about the same click.

Open timbre.cpp and replace the 2 occurences of  "noteOnWithoutPop" by "noteOn".
Load a soft sound with soft attack. Preen.bnk > 8-B Organ
Set number of voices to 2.
Now,  press A B C D E F G on your keyboard, without releasing any note.
At C and after, you'll hear the click.

I don't think this is something you want.

2.05 is available for download. See first post.
It's worth upgrading  ;)
