@Xavier  Exactly. Let me know if you want me to run before and after plots of the USB supply noise. I don't mind un-soldering and remeasuring.

I think it's solved.

ahh, I'm wondering if a jumper fell off those pins. looking at the build docs, those 2 right most pins should have a jumper. My PCB does not have this legend on the silkscreen.

So while I had my PFM3 open for the booting issues I had, I decided to try out filtering the USB lines using the circuit from the link above.

it helps so much when operating from USB. The digital whine I would get when powering via USB is now inaudible. I'm very happy with this solution.

I probably should have measured the pre and post filter noise on my scope for completeness.

Of note, I was previously trying out a ferrite on the USB cable and it was not helpful for the USB induced noises I was hearing.

"first obvious thing would be to downgrade to the "official" firmware again and see if it works there"
I just tried putting P3_1.02 and have the same issue. (good point thought) I kind of figured it was not the VOSIM OS. I'm wondering what type of hardware issue might cause this.

"Can you enter the bootloader mode with pressing the Menu button on power up?"
Not on initial power up (I.e. plugging in the DC power). I have to hit the reset button first (and hold menu or whatever) to get to boot loader.

So if I plug in power and I don't hit the reset button the screen stays black and the red led next to the microprocessor never blinks. The blue led and yellow LED stay lit.

[edit] new datapoint, I went to do the DFU style boot loader update where you tie boot0 pins with vcc on back side of the main PCB. I jumpered the right most two boot0 pins and powered on by connecting the DC power... and now everything is working normally.....
To be clear, I did not update in DFU mode yet, just jumpered those 2 pins and plugged in power and it consistently boots fine. Super weird.

I recently updated to VOSIM 3 and my PFM3 is not booting unless I press reset button on bottom of PCB.

It may not be VOSIM that is causing this issue. It seemed to be fine after the update, but this not booting thing seems to be happening today.

Any thing I should try out to narrow down the issue?

I'm powering over USB and its the USB power source I always use.
[edit] I used an external power supply also and had exactly the same issue.

Awesome. I still use mine all the time. I will update it with this OS to try out the new features.

re the additional modulation, thanks. Very cool. I just started playing with the new algorithm.

Thanks. I put one external ferrite on all of my USB cables, but that's generally just good for EMI/RFI. This is much lower freq than that since its in the audio range.

The circuit I showed above I can build super cheap and the ferrite is not the bolt around a cable type, it's the thruhole (or smt) type.

I was thinking of trying one if the audio isolators you linked to.

Has anyone modded their Preen FM3 to add something like:

https://andybrown.me.uk/2015/07/24/usb-filtering/

Its a ferrite and some caps.

My PFM3 gets kind of noisy on USB power. Which I can work around with the DC connector and removing the USB DC jumpers. But, its just so darn convenient to use USB to power sometimes.

@Toltekradiation These patches are exactly what I wanted to do. After reviewing the patches, I realized I didn't have nearly enough modulation going on. Thanks for the help. :-) I'm probably going to spend all weekend playing with these new algorithms.

perfect. thanks.

I'v played with the three new Algorithms a bunch. I like Algo 30th best so far. I've been able to make a bunch of crazy sounds, but none were vocal or choral like yet. I think I'm not modulating right/enough, so your patches will help me in that direction.

Any chance you have some suggested starting points for the IM settings?

Those samples sound awesome!!
I cant wait to try out your firmware tonight.

Can't you set the env release to max level and time?
