preenfm2 and preenfm3 / key range, velocity range
« on: October 17, 2021, 11:01:53 PM »
would it be possible to allow a key range to restrict each of the 4 instruments to fade out or stop playing outside of a specified key range or velocity range?  so in essence you could build a multi layered patch that was very expressive instead of using the layers as different instruments.  in essence making the whole machine about layers of a single patch but all responding accordingly?  this would take the machine to the next level for reasonably complex patches.  i know you could use the matrix for some of this but im unaware of you can make a velocity range for a patch as easily.  it would be nice to have a higher level of layer management so the option to use it this way were available without going into detail in the matrix.  like another page after 'engine' for keyrange/velocity/fade parameters? ill totally buy you a beer or 5

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / envelope delay
« on: October 17, 2021, 07:26:47 AM »
how nice would envelope delay be?  you can make a synth bass more groovy by delaying its influence on the carrier, or simply make a sound happen later, or even make a simple sequence.

i would love to curve my attack phase or my decay to further define my bass or effect sounds.  this is a game changer honestly.  to fine tune carrier/modulator relationship with custom curved envelopes gives so much mojo to the final.

it might instead be cool to customize the response of an individual parameter instead? so just feed it a linear value and the parameter will respond based on an input curve since its just easier to manage linear envelopes and automation.. this will animate patches in amazing ways making many things possible and help to define the sound of preenfm3 in a crowd of similar products.

of course, custom envelopes or other modulators would allow modulation with a variety of flavors to take place simultaneously but is more intense computationally and more work to add i think.  but i dont know.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / add matrix destinations
« on: October 15, 2021, 10:19:22 PM »
is there any way we could add matrix destinations for all filter parameters please (if they exist or not)?  this will go a long way to making pfm2/3 a sound designers tool.  i will personally buy you a beer!

i just want a quick way to invert velocity response

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / master effects for pfm3 suggestions
« on: March 06, 2021, 12:11:47 AM »
assuming there will be a master section, i think it might be a great way to push the preenfm sound forward.

i would love to see a master section with its own midi channel for tweaks and note on functionality for its own envelopes and lfos etc.  i would also love to stack more than one effect and make assignments in the master mod matrix.

it would be great to see some useful lfo shapes like ’full on attack log decay’, some filter types like comb, ring mod, eq, maybe effects like pattern gate, cross fading, vector mixing, free/tempo synced tremolo, soft clipping distortion, good reverb, maybe simple buffer effects...

i think these ideas could take preenfm3 beyond and make a very nice upgrade incentive!

when i press a button to exit the screen saver, it also makes a change to the voice.  i request that any button click or turn off the knob does nothing except awaken the synth until the screen is on.

with more power to play around with, many upgrades would be possible making the preenfm experience closer to what you could easily buy on the market.  im talking about wavetables or at least harmonically rich morphable waveforms.  this sort of thing goes a long way towards texture and movement.  static waves are ok for a static sound reminiscent of the dx7 or old yamaha stuff.  however this is just not how music sounds these days.  there are many things possible but they dont convey harmonic richness in any but a few well known ways weve been listening to since the 80s.  i think the fm capabilities of preenfm would benefit from modern digital waveforms and could also do the older style sounds.  i would also love to see the effect/filter side of preenfm3 grow.  a dual filter with awesome saturations might be nice.

in my opinion, preenfm3 is worth some sort of extended capability.  why have a new version that doesnt go much beyond the previous offering?  if the goal is to attract new customers, perhaps its a worthy pursuit?  unless youre aiming for the same type of user, which arguably would already know of preenfm2 and either has one or has ruled it out.

preenfm2/3 has great bones.  modulation, multitimbrality, form/size, usb, bus power, midi control, din, random, great screen, amazing 24 bit precision... now it just needs more/betterer osc and filter/fx to fit todays methods.  yeah im saying compete with stuff like blofeld since youre in the price range together.  reign in the processes that make modern fm a joy to use to author unique sounds.  dont make it a wavetable synth that does fm, make it an fm synth that has wavetable oscillators.  the same level of character is just not attainable with static waveforms. unison will help however!

make this appeal to more types of producers while keeping those interested in its current capability.  and if youre upset by me saying these things, dont be.

can the r6 be fitted with the euro kit?  i hope so!

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / keytracking as mod source?. other suggestions
« on: November 09, 2020, 05:27:00 PM »
im surprised i dont see this in the list...  is it there?  id like to map it to the filter.

im starting to layer parts together to make a voice with more character than is possible with 1 part...  it would be nice to have a global effect/filter layer

the glide is still not as adjustable as i would like...  could it be made to go slower?

it might be nice to modulate other parameters like in the filter, or maybe the algorithm.

what do you think?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / The preenfm bootloader and how to flash it
« on: November 04, 2020, 12:30:43 AM »
Xavier's note

Split from an other thread.
Try to use this thread if you have any questions realated to flashing the bootloader

Original message

ok i took thumb drive out again and put p2_boot_1.13.bin in the pfm2 folder, booted into flash mode, flashed and it now says it has bootloader 1.12 installed and still wont allow usb access to thumb drive.

i realize i flashed bootloader to os so i reflashed 2.20

message me if you want a working r5 preenfm2.

youll need a case, a display, a female header, a usb a right angle port, a thumbdrive, a few jumpers, buttons, knobs, offset hardware

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / my suggestions march 20
« on: March 28, 2020, 06:26:28 PM »
say, i was wondering if i might offer some suggestions:

parameters that have a large range allow you to ckick twist an editor knob to get back to 0 quickly.  my suggestion is to put a range of values in there so you could easily reach 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 or 1, 4, 8, 12, 16 etc instead of having to scroll all the way up if you accidentally zeroed the knob.

i really miss long portamento slides, could we take a vote to see if people are ok with breaking older patch compatibility?  maybe some sort of batch or conversion utility could be made easily?

i would love to use my own lfo shapes, would that be simple to implement?

it would be amazing to simply delay the start of a voice from key on...

hope youre staying safe and healthy.
