preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: usb midi not working in 0.99b?
« on: December 14, 2020, 01:20:17 PM »
ok, so...

it seems this is not related to my macbook air after all. i cannot get my preenfm3 to be seen on any other computer as well!
so usb-midi is broken for me.

symptoms:

preenfm3 turns on normally
osx does not see the preenfm3 as midi device, it is not even recognised as usb device via:
Code: [Select]
ioreg -p IOUSB -l -w 0 in terminal.

putting it into DFU mode (with jumper set) it is recognised by
Code: [Select]
ioreg -p IOUSB -l -w 0 and i can flash firmware.

i guess communication is working so it is not a hardware issue, right?

anything i can try? i know this was working before, so it seems really strange.

MPE is all about expression, so basically it is one polyphonic instrument with many polyphonic expressions. because of the limitations of midi (that only allows one expression per note, i.e. poly aftertouch) they implemented the channel rotation thing. it's a bit of a mess actually. so probably it would be possible to ignore the channel for note on/off and save the channel alongside the pitch so that you can then assign the cc and pitchbend info to the correct note.

Xavier, would it be possible for you to reimplement the screen dimming feature? this would allow me to run the preenfm3 from my air. and honestly I liked the backlight a bit dimmer then full brightness...

i suspect it is my macbook air actually. i had an issue with a preenfm2 and a garbled display that was only present on the air. i guess the usb ports just don't deliver enough "juice"...

how much power does the preenfm3 need?

argh...it just happened again. OSX is not recognising the preenfm3 anymore.

actually now that i think about it :-) i had user CC implemented on a custom preenfm2 firmware back in the days...

i also think option 2 would be the most user friendly version.

what to do with 3 or 4 operator engines? simply grey out the others or regroup the buttons?

don't actually! after a reboot to linux (dual boot system) it started working again, also on osx. so it seems to be an osx oddity...

yeah i understand about that. but think about it that way:

for perfomance and live usage the synth may have preprogrammed patches on it and one could disable cc control of the parameters in the menu. that would free up "all" cc messages to be choosen as sources for modulations.

poly aftertouch is just very nice because it allows modulation of individual notes in a polyphonic patch obviously :-)

Thanks , did xavier say something about it somewhere or are you planning to implement it?

ok,
Code: [Select]
ioreg -p IOUSB -l -w 0
gives me:

Code: [Select]
    +-o preenfm3@14200000  <class AppleUSBDevice, id 0x10000ce78, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (7 ms), retain 31>
        {

hmm, the preenfm3 does not show up as midi device...

but i can update/downgrade the firmware just fine, so that means communication is working fine. i am sure this was working before.

i tried 0.91, 0_97 and 0_99 and they all don't show up on my mac. will investigate further...

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / pfm3 : usb midi not working in 0.99b?

i can't see my preenfm3 via usb-midi connection in 0.99b could that be?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / preenfm3 0.99b freeze
« on: December 09, 2020, 01:38:45 PM »
if i go into config and set encoder push to yes (even if i have no push encoders, but i am not convinced that matters) the whole preenfm3 freezes, and i have to restart the synth.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / [Added in v0.101] poly pressure
« on: December 09, 2020, 01:29:07 PM »
hi xavier,

this is for preenfm3:
would it be possible to add polyphonic aftertouch (a.k.a. polyphonic pressure) to the list of modulation sources? this would open up the synth considerably. if you are there i think it would be very nice to add some user-definable cc control as well. so let's say you define in global menu "control-x" = cc15, a user can then select cc15 in the mod matrix to modulate any parameter.

greetings
