preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Latest firmware : 2.08a
« on: November 20, 2017, 11:27:24 PM »
well, with the 8timbres version of the firmware that feature is not so pressing to me, since i can have 8channels in each preset.
but let's assume we are on the 4timbres version...
for live performances i have a controller that can send on 8 channels, since i never use them all on one preset (and since the channels represent different modes of the controller) it would be nice to switch the channels with the combo-presets. that way i can send a program change to the preenfm and all is adjusted for the next song/part whatever. reaching down to the preenfm and adjusting in the menu is of course no option :-)

but more importantly now (with the 8timbres version) is actually the offset of midi notes to me. so that i can play treble parts and bass parts on the same controller. let's say i1 has a bass part and i2 has a melody part loaded. i can then play both on my controller but i cannot switch octaves on the controller so fast. if i could adjust an offset for i2 i would set it to +24 and all incoming midi on i2 would be 2 octaves higher.

these two features (midi channel and offset) are very common on many multitimbral synths, and are usually part of the combo/multi preset, hence my suggestions. i'm simply used to that workflow and the preenfm would integrate much smoother into my setup... :-)

thanks for taking the time

what about pressing the inst button and pressing an encoder down, or inst and menu?

i will think about it...

If you spot any kind of error in the schematic or in the placement please let me know in the following days.

i could not find a link to a schematic.

xavier,

with the recent activity in the firmware i think it would be a good time to implement the combo settings page after i4 (i8 respectively  ;) )

did you do any thinking in that direction? as i said before i think most crucial settings will be:
midi channel for each instrument
midi offset, transpose +-48 semitones all incoming midi on an instrument

find the 8timbres version of 2.08a in the 8timbres thread...

ok i massaged the 8timbre version and the latest 2.08a firmware together...pfffh. i have to learn to use gits merge i think. altough it said it could not merge automatically.

find attached the firmware. i also included my program change mod, that allows to specify what program change does change (combo, bank etc.) and i increased the maximum lfo frequency to 599.9 hz just for grinse. as xavier predicted, the display looks funny after 99.9 (it sputters into the bias number) but it appears to work fine.

cheers!

Great! Thank you Lokki.

And what about the glide ? Does it work ? Any tips on wich parameters give interesting results on the Preenfm to assign them as CC messages on the seaboard ?

you will have to set pitchbend accordingly, and it should work yes. and load the same preset on all four slots and set the voices to 1.

the preenfm2 supports this at the moment:

four channels that can be set to any channel (via menu)
a dedicated channel that sends to all channels. (if enabled)
i think this should be "playable" with mpe controller, no? of course only 4 voices of polyphony and no configuration from the controller. (so no "full" implementation)

EDIT: there is a version of the firmware that has 8 monophonic voices on different channels. but it is not updated so it lacks the global midi channel. i will try to update it in the next days.

i think if you go down the route of the 42010 to control volume you might as well integrate that into the firmware as well, so that one can store the volume of patches. that way you would not need an extra encoder but control the volume via menus

well yes me :-)

it is very simple on the preenfm:

if you enable global midi channel in the menu any message from this channel will be spread to all voices.

two stereo jacks would be awesome...

can you record a file and create a spectrogram of both channels to compare? are both channels set to exactly the same sound? i.e. a mono sound centered?

a stereo out jack and a dedicated headphone out would sure be great. other than that i am pretty happy. i would wish there were 4 outputs instead of only stereo so that you could route each instrument to another channel. but that is not gonna happen without adjusting quite a lot of the firmware and i am also not sure if the stm32 would support another stereo dac for the additional outs.

hmm ok. so long delay is out of sight :-)

free verb seems doable, and it sounds very nice especially for synth sounds:

https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~jos/pasp/Freeverb.html it uses comb filters and allpassfilters.
