Oh.. that's great.. thanx . And I suppose that when feedback is 7 on one operator, I must turn this operator to saw wave.. ok ok.. thanx again..
And enjoy the cool sun..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Converting DX7, or DX9, presets..
« on: October 14, 2017, 10:47:17 PM »
Hello there..
How can anyone convert some DX7 prests into PreenFM2 presets.. Is it as simple as loading the DXé sysex into the preenfm2 ?? I guess not..
Or do we need to enter the parameters one by one, by hand, and make some conversions ?? (for example, operator volume on DX7 become a modulation index on PreenFM2.. It's value can be 0-99 on DX7, and 0-127 on PreenFM2.. Rate scaling, lever scaling, need the modulation matrix.. etc etc..).. Is there a conversion table somewhere ??

Have a good night..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: PreenFM2 on Zynthian ?????????
« on: October 14, 2017, 10:42:38 PM »
Hello Xavier..
Thanx for your fast answer..
First, I would like to be sure that I wouldn't want it to ruin your business, or the popularity of the PreenFM..
I mean I wouldn't want to be told that people no more build PreenFM2s just because they have it on Zynthian..
I hope the opposite, I mean I would like to be told that because they can also use it on Zynthian, people are much more interested by your machine..

I don't know what you know about Zynthian.. It is just a multi-engine platform, as they call it.. It can run ZynAddSubFX, Dexed, MDAepiano, MOD-UI.. But all those virtual instruments, you cannot program them on your Zynthian.. You only have access to a few parameters for each machine.. You can consider the Zynthian as a "player", you have to programm your machines on a computer, and then load the presets (sysex) to your Zynthian so it can use it..

I understand that it would be much work to adapt the PreenFM2 to Zynthizan, and I guess you won't be the one doing it.. And because I know nothing in programming, I am not the one either.. But who knows ?? Maybe someone here, or in the Zynthian community, would be reay to do it.. I could ask, but in no way I would ask it if you don't give me the rights to..

I believe that making a complete PreenFM2 Zynthian compatible, would not be so easy.. But a PreenFM2 player that would run on Zynthian ?? People would have to program it on the PreenFM2, and then they could play the presets on their Zynthian.. Or they would use the existing library..
No need to be multitimbral, as one could run several instances at the same time..
I know that Dexed is already implemented on Zynthian.. But PreenFM2, with its multiple LFO, and the modulation matrix, and the multiple waveforms, plus the user waveforms, is something different and, on many sides, much better..

(and btw, a VST PreenFM2 plugin would be a great thing too, in my opinion.. But still.. I wouldn't want it to ruin your business)

Have a good night..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / PreenFM2 on Zynthian ?????????
« on: October 14, 2017, 12:38:57 PM »
Hello there..
I'm a dummy, when it comes to programming..
I have a PreenfM2 and I love it..
I'm also building a Zynthian.. I was wondering if the PreenFM2 could be integrated into the Zynthian platform.. The Zynthian already includes Dexed, and I'm happy for that..
But for many reasons, Preenfm2 is much better.. SO I would like to use it inside the Zynhtian..
But you will sure tell me that it's not possible, right ?? Because the programming software is different, of for any other reason ??
Life is so crual..

Except that there is sun..
Hoping you enjoy it..

Hello there..
Quote
something like: :::: (but each point can be turned on and off individually)

That reminds me of something.. Was it Yamaha QX5 ?? But that was in a single line.. I prefer in 2 lines.. It's easier to identify which number is on or off, especially for numbers 3 to 6..

Have a nice day everyone..

I like reading this thread.. This collaborative atmosphere, leading to an interesting improvement of the machine.. People having ideas, expectations, people having skills, people helping.. All this is a delight..

About waveforms..
"Adventure Kid Waveforms (AKWF)

AKWF is a collection of one cycle waveforms sampled from various sources intended for use as oscillator shapes in samplers and synthesizers.

Length = 600 samples
Pitch = D1+2

You find them on-line at: http://www.adventurekid.se/AKRT"

600 samples per cycle is small, and is a good source of aliasing.. Maybe Audacity or any other wav editor can re-sample/filter them to 4096sample waves ??

But one has to remember that user waveforms are not saved with the preset.. Up to 6 user waveforms can be stored in the SF card, and then they are loaded when you power-on your Preenfm2..
If you make, for example,  a preset using userwaveform 1, and if you then delete or replace this userwaveform 1, then your preset will no more sound the same..

I don't know if anyone ever used any userwaveform for FMsynthesis, and I'm not sure that this feature is really imoprtant..

I can imagine you use the last algorythm ; 6 detuned carriers, each one using its own waveform, or all of them using the same waveform, and the individual envelopes would in fact make an evolving mix of them.. I would love this feature, but only with a bank of more than 6 userwaveforms, and filters, and filter envelopes.. In fact, a kind of Roland D20 or Ensoniq ESQ'1/SQ'80.. But that's not the purpose of the Preenfm2..
Have a nice time..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Multi USB inputs..
« on: September 23, 2017, 05:23:09 PM »
Oh.. I see.. I took the problem by the wrong side.. I was almost sure that Preenfm2 was class compliant.. But yes, now I remember that when I had just a kboard and the preenfm2 connected, without any computer, that was through MIDI and not USB..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Multi USB inputs..
« on: September 23, 2017, 12:02:03 PM »
Hello there..

Been documenting on TEControl products, mainly for breath controllers..
They need a class compliant device, and I believe that Preefm2 is..
I mean, I believe that I would just have to plug the Breath Controller into the Preenfm2 and blow, and the device would sent its CC2 values and Preenfm2 would understand them, and obey..
The Pedal controller seems an interesting device too..
http://www.tecontrol.se/products

The thing is : If I plug the TEControl module into my preenfm2's USB socket, then I have no more USB socket to plug a Kboard into.. I can still use a MIDI DIN input, sure..

But is there a way to have 2, 3 or even 459 USB sockets to control the Preenfm2 ?? You know, for example, those cards we use on computers which multiply a single USB socket into 4 sockets ?? Probably not, as I suppose they need a piece of software to manage them..

Enjoy breathing..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: 2 filters in parallel
« on: September 23, 2017, 11:01:01 AM »
Hi again Lokki and Xavier and the rest of the world..

Concerning the existing filter, and especially in "bandpass" mode, I believe it would be very good to have a "direct volume", or "dry volume" control.. Or a balance "dry/wet" so that we could mix part . well why should I explain, you understood why..

When I use the FMsynth on Caustic, with an electric piano preset, I often add one or more "multifilter" in "Band Isolate" mode, which is a band pass+dry filter, the "Gain" button being in fact a mixer/balance..

The filter in Preenfm2 is a presently 3 parameter module, so there is one vacant place on the display, and one vacant encoder, which could be used for this purpose..

Have a nice day..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: custom extended firmware
« on: September 23, 2017, 10:40:57 AM »
Hello @Lokki..
And hello @Xavier..
ANd hello @Everyoneelse..

First of all : a big thanx for the "hertz" detune which, I believe, should be an option available on each single synth.. Nothing more boring that a 4hz "beating" in the upper octave when the ensemble effect in the lower one is so slow and sweet..
I think that, using the mattrix, it was still possible to use Note Scaling as source, OpFreq as destination, and a negative value (-0.0001 ???) if the detune is >0, and vice versa, but that means  using up to 5 matrix slots, and some time to set all this up.. And that would waste the Note Scaling which can be useful for envelope rates or Modulation Indexes..
This HZ function will be more versatile, lighter, easier to use, less dispendious.. If I'm allowed to vote, I would vote for Xavier including this function/option in the official firmware..

Second : Usercc is probably an useful feature too.. I can't tell for the 2 other new features, as I don't understand much what they are and what they mean.. I need more experience..

Third and last : Autumn is here.. Enjoy it..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: Output volume vs polyphony..

Ah yes, ok.. And I guess I will have less aliasing when the polyphonique is reduced..
OK. . Thanx Xavier..
 Bonne journée. .

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Output volume vs polyphony..
« on: May 15, 2017, 05:51:44 PM »
Hello there..
Is it normal if I get a big difference in output volume, when I turn the polyphony "knob" ??
On my preenfm2, the output volume is decreasing, as long as I increase the polyphony, and vice versa.. Is it the normal behaviour ? Or is it just on mine ?

And still.. Enjoy your sun..

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / A higher polyphony ??
« on: May 13, 2017, 10:33:10 PM »
Hello there.. And most of all, hello Xavier.. Because this message is mainly for you..

Let's say that the subject will be : would it be possible to make a version of PreenFM2, with a bigger polyphony, by using a pair of Preenf405, one would be the master, and the other would simply be the slave ??

I know that the PCB is not made for it.. But we can probably imagine that, instead of placing the Preenf405 board in the IC support, we could use headers, and connect a second PCB which would hold both Preens..

My old Ensoniq ESQ'1 has a "overflow" option, in its MIDI menu, which allows driving a second ESQ'1 (or a ESQ'M expander) when the number of midi notes received, exceeds it's own polyphony (8 notes)..

The master Preen would then have to send exceeding notes to the slave, and performance control like pitch bend, mod wheel etc.. In fact a full bunch of incoming midi messages.. But not only ; it would also have to send all the preset (or combo) parameters, so that both play the same preset or combo..
The slave would be totally hidden, the user would not have access to it : it would only be there to obey to the master..

Each preset or combo that we would save in the master, would be saved identically in the slave's memory, same preset or combo number..

In terms of price, what would it cost ? Of course, an added PCB, and a second Preen.. What else should be doubled ?
What else should be added ?? I think that there would need a mixer.. Possibly digital mixer, or analog, but prior to the final stage, so that we can use the volume knob to set the volume of the mix..

I know, Xavier, that your time is not infinite.. You have a life to live, and you once said that you would like to have time to play your music.. I understand this very well, and I can just approve you..
And in fact, except me, I don't know how many people would be interested in having a more polyphonic version..
I'm just wishing that I could have a "wider" preenFM, (mainly for electric pianos, in fact) and by this message, I'm opening the topic, for discussion.. But if you say "no way", or "no time", or "too complicated", and even "useless when it concerns only you", then I would fully understand and abandon my wish..

Have a good week end..
Thierry
