preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: PreenFM3 Questions
« on: October 04, 2020, 10:32:08 PM »
I wonder if it's possible in the new PFM3 to design it so that there is no clicking when changing programs.

i think "commercial" synths usually just fade out the current sound and then load the new one.
another point to consider, what do you do with currently playing midi notes? simply stop them?

The next preenfm3 firmware (0.91) will have a silent preset loading process

. The concerned instrument quickly fades out its current playing sounds. No clicking.
. If it was playing notes, they are triggered again after the new preset is loaded.
. Other instruments continue playing as if nothing happens.

That's a nice improvement, specially when changing preset while the sequencer is playing.

It was not really straightforward  ;)

Thanks for the discussion :)

simply awesome. Thanks xavier! I wonder if this same technique could be applied to pfm2? I realize that development is focused on the 3, but it would be nice to use them both together and I'm sequencing all of my synths, often with program changes. so this is a vital thing in my setup.

thanks again. very excited for this pfm3 as it develops.

I wonder if it's possible in the new PFM3 to design it so that there is no clicking when changing programs.

It's the reason I stopped using the PFM2 in my live sets and have found the most frustrating thing about it to be the patch management. When sending program changes, all timbres have a momentary hiccup.

Also would be really nice to make it easier to edit a patch and save changes without having to navigate back to the exact patch number. This is simple enough if you're editing from the front panel, but for example if you have landed on a patch from an midi program change and have messed with the patch and now want to save changes. presently this is a frustrating experience whereby you have to locate that exact patch number and then manually overwrite it.

that's a very keen observation. thanks for the great tip!

I agree. Some of these filters are a lot more useful than others. I'd rather not have to scroll through a long list to get to the ones that give me anything other than glitched signals. Quality over quantity any day.

It happens on all filters. Even without any filter, the gain cc isn't working.

I'll try the most recent update and see if that works.

Hmmm. I think that the addition of filters broke some of the midi cc control. I have cc73 (filter gain) mapped to a volume pedal and now it no longer works. cc71 and 72 aren't working either (filter parameters). Anyone else notice this? I haven't installed the latest filters, but one of the permutations a page or two back in this thread.

ooh, this would be a very welcome addition! Anyone up to the task of creating new algorithms? I'm loving the new filters!

you could certainly use an ipad to sequence.

Depending on what you're going for, there are a handful of options

• Nanostudio 2 - daw-like piano roll, with a bonus sampler and pretty impressive 3 osc synth
• Xequence 2 - similar, but without the option to run instruments and midi plugins, of which there a lot of good ones
• Polyphase - fun 4 part generative sequencer. Perfect for the PFM2, but not perfect if you want predictable results.
• Atom - A piano roll Auv3 that you can run multiple instances in any host. For the most modular approach, I'd suggest AUM as a host running Atom. there are fantastic midi fx plugins such as Mozaic, midifiltr-PG, midLFOs, cykle, Cality, Fugue Machine, etc.. as well as lots of drum machines and such. These plugins can also run in a host such as Nanostudio. Sadly Nanostudio doesn't have audio recording capabilities just yet.

I personally prefer a hardware sequencer as it's more hands on, but I sort of use a combination. I'm using a Squarp Pyramid, but all midi and audio goes through AUM for audio and midi processing. Nice thing is that AUM also doubles as a multichannel audio recorder!

ooof!

I feel your pain. That truly sucks.

I've taken to color coding my power cables. Put a little blob of nailpolish or coloured tape or something. It's all too easy to mix them up when you've got a tangle of black cables.

Why not simply use more than one track then?

I use the preen for percussion all the time with my sequencer. I set up 4 channels and go at it. I find it preferable having each voice on its own channel anyhow. A little more tedious, but much more flexible in terms of pitching, modulation, etc of the preen and for the possibility of polyrhythms and midi fx on each part on the sequencer.

would it be possible to merge these features with the official release? I love the custom cc's and the extended Program Change options and use them regularly, but with the added features of midi control of the display, and tuning selections, I'm so torn!  :o

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: any way to select timbres via midi?
« on: June 09, 2019, 05:21:22 AM »
It was simpler than expected.
I attached a new 2.10 firmware that adds :
. CC#119 : value 1, 2, 3, 4 select the current preenfm2 instrument. Display is updated.
. A new setting "Tools>Set> Current Ch." (after the "Midi ch") . It allows you to use a midi channel that is redirected to the current instrument. Default value is none.

That should allow you to easily modify and play the 4 instruments that are loaded.

For the currious the changes are here:
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2/commit/4743a3fd05ede8e8cdb9cfab978940af9fc20dc0

Let me know what you think,

oh wow! Thanks Xavier!!

That should do the trick.

to answer your question above about the patch changes, (apologies for being vague) I was referring to the situation I often find myself in: not easily able to save changes to patches (it's probably just my setup - it's sort of cumbersome when using external PC messages as it takes a fair amount of menu diving from my controller to locate the PC # (I have a midi knob assigned to it, but without a display)
this fix should help make this situation easier though. Thanks again! I'll try it out this evening.

cheers
