hardware upgrade option
« on: November 05, 2012, 03:33:29 AM »
hi,
what would be more affordable:

i want to set the polyphony up to 16 voices in 6op mode.
so where should I start to study

replacing the maple core ?
adding more maple cores ?

---
also, is it possible to quantify the parameters to 14 or 16 bits ? I think getting more than 0-127 for operators would be nice.
(I think only Alesis ION synthesizer is capable to sweet modulate the fm ammount (operator output val) in real time.

Hi,

I don't think you'll find an affordable solution.
Neither regarding the price nor the time it will take you to make it work.
The easiest solution is to build 4 PreenFM.... ;-)

You won't find any board more powerfull than the maple mini that you can plug in the PreenFM and have it working out of the box.

If you want to experiment with more powerfull MCU you may want to give a look at the discovery board, specially this one :
https://www.google.com/search?q=stm32f4+discover
But don't expect to run the PreenFM firmware out of the box on it... STM32F1 and STM32F4 are not very compatible.
