PreenFM2 r5d - midi DIN IN ok OUT not
« on: January 28, 2018, 10:16:39 AM »
hi all

I finished my build yesterday but cant seem to get the midi working, I resoldered the wires as I had those the wrong way and checked everything else looked ok

I read the diode orientation can do this, I have red one with ring on the right, the other 2 have ring on left and bottom

I ha e one resistor left and a black wire, do I need these? they were left over from the oled mod

which pins on the r5d board deal with midi please?

many thanks guys

also I havent been able to find how to init a patch, can this be done?

Hi,

There are 2 things we don't see well on your picture :
. How the midi jack are solders.
. The direction of the 6N137

I attached a diagram with the connection you should check.
Same color = linked.

Happy debugging,

Xavier

ill check those thanks

I have nothing in p3 though was I meant to put a jumper pin in there?

update//
resoldered all the points in the photo you highlighted and no change
the 6n137 has the dot at the bottom left, same edge as the indent on the mount
the midi jacks are wired on the center row of the top 5 pins, so 2 and 4 counting clockwise 1-5, left in on pcb to pin 4, right in to pin 2, same with the out from the pcb left 4, right 2

update::
I have resoldered and tidied up the highlighted midi areas on the board, another not highlighted pin I had missed so I soldered that and now the midi in works great!

I put the case together before I checked the out port though and this still doesnt work. I had midi thru on and sent from out a in my daw and then had the preen plugged into in a and tried receiving midi into another daw track and nothing happens. I tried with the arp on and off and various channels

does this mean if the in works, that the problem has to be the out port connections? ie the plug on the board or the wires on the port rather than another component now?

thanks for the help by the way guys, I love this little beast!

Nice to read you have the In working.

The easiest way to try midi is to use the editor.
Read the small text here :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2Controller
Binaries are here :
https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2Controller/releases

Modify editor should modify preenfm values : you test preenfm midi In.
Change preenfm2 value  and that should change editor value : you test midi Out.
