There's a review of the Shruth-1 in SoundOnSound magazine and the PreenFM is mentioned as another DIY kit.
Sadly they wrote that it uses a Yamaha FM chip (they must be getting confused with the MIDIBox OPL stuff) and it's a lot more interesting than Yamaha FM.
You have to buy the full review (£0.99) or the magazine to read it all.

Very nice :)
And great article about the Shruthi-1.
Thanks for the info...
Too bad the only line they wrote about the PreenFM is wrong ;)

Nice! Sort of. I'd say ask for a correction... or sue them for libel! ;D

The guy who wrote it is an ex-C64 musician. He's on the Mutable forum, seems a nice guy anyway. I just hope he builds a Preen, it would be nice to read about it.
I've just finished another Preen board, one more to go :)

Yes the Yamaha FM things is not a big deal.
I've added a line on my site :
(Its FM synthesis is not at all based on any Yamaha FM chip.)
In case people come from the SOS article. ;)
I'm glad to be in the "alternatives" part....

Well I think it's not an alternative, as people should own both PreenFM and a Shruthi-1 (and the new Ambika when that is officially released).

I see what you mean...
Should have been named "Other DIY kits".
The new Ambika is an amazing synth. Olivier did a fantastic job.
I'll try to buy and build one with at least 4 daughter boards when it's ready in October.

Well, alternative is right if you only can build one. But I think once you have built one it becomes addictive, it's a very small club of a few hundred people and the only other way to be a member of such a small bunch is to own some very expensive synth or a rare modular.
Ambika was a really easy build, everything on the main board is spaced out and easy to do. The voice cards are small PCBs and are therefore easy to work with too. I want all six :)
