Title: preenfm2, what is an affordable input device?
Post by: rbalasus on September 08, 2015, 05:38:19 PM
Hello, I have ordered a preenfm2 kit. I have never used such a device before, but want to learn.

As far I understand this device creates the sound-(snippets). But what is a useful affordable input device for a beginner? Can somebody suggest a model/type of a midi keyboard, or something else. So that I can hear first results without big programming effort on the inputdevice.

thanx in advance

Well if you just hook it up to your computer, you can write MIDI notes in a program (like Ableton, Logic, etc...), and send them to the PreenFM2 via USB or MIDI.
That is, if you have a computer.

Hi Randolf,

That's a little strange to start a home studio with a Kit of a FM sound module  :)

As clémént said you can use the midi editor of a sequencer program.
Tracktion 4 is free, give it a try :

Chosing a midi keyboard is not easy. For the first one i would take a cheap one such as alesis Q25.
If you take a keyboard with mini keys, i think you won't get MIDI jack output (only usb), so you'll need a computer between the preenfm and your keyboard.

Where will you plug the audio output of the preenfm2 ?
Mixer ? Sound card ?
