« on: December 11, 2013, 03:14:55 PM »
Thanks Patrick for this first help.  :)

If it's really the engine button, check the 4 solder points circled in orange of the attached picture (next time i'll use a thicker brush).
Also pin 9 of the resistor network should be at 3.3V if the button is not pressed and set to GND when button is pressed.

Then you can check the soldering of the GND point near the orange: button and the HC165 CI.
And last (hope not), check the resistor network are in the right direction.

Let me know,

Xavier

Hi,

And what do you see if you switch on without pressing "Op" button ? nothing either ?
The cerb40 you reveived with  your Kit is ready to use so it should boot normaly without any flashing.

Switch on the PreenFM, without pressing any button.
Have you tried to turn the LCD resistor contrast to the end in both direction while looking at the LCD ?
Have you tried sending midi notes to the Midi IN Jack ? Do you hear any sound on the audio jack ?

Let me know,
If nothing works, next step will be to check the 3.3V points on the PCB.

It was not because of '$'.
It was stupid bug that sets the number of bank to 0 if more than 256 syx files.

Fixed in 0.9j, thanks for the report.

Resolution is now 0.01 for LFO frequency if values < 1.0 in 0.9j firmware.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Let me know if you find any problem.

sorry, yes, its the pfm2/dx7 directory. I re-downloaded and extracted the sysex tar and put the contents in pfm2/dx7 without the additional patches I had in there earlier and it works now. The problem may be the first patch from the group "DX7EXTRA" which is called $m3.syx. It looks like the directory scan is interrupted by the $ and it won't find any files after that.

Ah i see... thanks for the report.

Tip for the DX7 patches, if you have a saturated sound, look at the upper oscillator number (ENG button + Menu), set it to "SIN" if it's not already and reduce the frequency.
Having frequency = 16 at level 3 or 4 works with the DX7 not with the PreenFM.

I'll try to automate this in a future update.

I did but I added a couple of additional groups of syx files from the same site, all of them are in pfm2/syx. Is there a limit on the number of files that could cause this to happen?

You mean "pfm2/dx7" ?
Limit is 256 dx7 sysex files. But if you put more, only 256 will show up.

Use the zip file provided, and let me know if you see analog1 bank in Load->DX7.

Hiya!

Just installed version 0.9i and the updated bootloader. Works fine indeed.  8)

May I ask for another feature update. I find the 0.1 increments of the LFO a little bit to coarse when it comes to slow movements.
I would prefer a way to use 0.01 increments or at minimum 0.05. Also, 0.1 is a bit too fast for (some) ambient pads work.

Thanks! :-)

Thanks for the feedback, that's interesting.
I can easily change it to 0.05 but i'll see if i can do something smarter.

Which one did you download ?

Did you get "SYX files (1,177,600 byte tar file)" from here :
http://homepages.abdn.ac.uk/mth192/pages/html/dx7.html#patches
?
No subfolder... Directly in "pfm2/dx7"..

The PreenFM2 can only read dx7 *.syx... Check the size it should be 4104.

Cheers  :)

hi was wondering if it would be possible to hear frequency changes real time while playing test note. i can only hear changes when a new note is played.
cheers

Not with the way it currently works.
You can modify  the frequencies of the oscillator from the modulation matrix though.

Awesome !!!
I even prefer this one from you :
https://soundcloud.com/ryu-x/fm-fm

Could you give me more info on what is done by the PreenFM and what is not ?
I'd like to share them on my site and facebook if you don't mind but that requires to be clear about what sound comes from the PreenFM2 and if you added any aditional effects.

Thanks  :D

Thanks a lot for these great pictures.  :D

Where did you get those knobs ?
They perfectly fit the black and white of the rest.
