Voices / Operators

(1/2) > >>

Eamoex:
Hi,

ordered my kit and looking forward to assembly.

Question: let's say I have a 2-Instrument "patch", and each of the two Instruments uses 5-Operator algorithms. Every time I hit a note, I sound 10 Operators (2 Instruments x 5 Operators). So if I hit four notes simultaneously, I sound 40 Operators (4 Voices x 2 Instruments x 5 Operators) out of the 48 available, which means I have a max. polyphony of 4.

Is this correct?

the_duckchild:
Pretty sure that's right.

Eamoex:
Okay thanks.

Digging further: if I change one of my two Instruments to a 4-Operator algorithm, I should gain an additional Voice. Right?

5.Op x 5.Note = 25.Op | 4.Op x 5.Note = 20.Op | 25.Op + 20.Op = 45.Op

Xavier:

There's a shema at the top of the doc called "Workflow of the PreenFM2 sound generation" that should clarify how operators are shared.

The only thing that worry me about what you wrote is that there's no 5 Operator algo.
only 3, 4 or 6.

Eamoex:
Hi,

thanks for your reply. I had read the diagram already.

On the other hand, I haven't paid close enough attention to the Algorithms and hadn't noticed there were no 5-Op arrangements.

But even so: if there was such a thing as a 5-Op Algorithm, would my interpretation of how Voices are dealt with be correct?
