with more power to play around with, many upgrades would be possible making the preenfm experience closer to what you could easily buy on the market.  im talking about wavetables or at least harmonically rich morphable waveforms.  this sort of thing goes a long way towards texture and movement.  static waves are ok for a static sound reminiscent of the dx7 or old yamaha stuff.  however this is just not how music sounds these days.  there are many things possible but they dont convey harmonic richness in any but a few well known ways weve been listening to since the 80s.  i think the fm capabilities of preenfm would benefit from modern digital waveforms and could also do the older style sounds.  i would also love to see the effect/filter side of preenfm3 grow.  a dual filter with awesome saturations might be nice.

in my opinion, preenfm3 is worth some sort of extended capability.  why have a new version that doesnt go much beyond the previous offering?  if the goal is to attract new customers, perhaps its a worthy pursuit?  unless youre aiming for the same type of user, which arguably would already know of preenfm2 and either has one or has ruled it out.

preenfm2/3 has great bones.  modulation, multitimbrality, form/size, usb, bus power, midi control, din, random, great screen, amazing 24 bit precision... now it just needs more/betterer osc and filter/fx to fit todays methods.  yeah im saying compete with stuff like blofeld since youre in the price range together.  reign in the processes that make modern fm a joy to use to author unique sounds.  dont make it a wavetable synth that does fm, make it an fm synth that has wavetable oscillators.  the same level of character is just not attainable with static waveforms. unison will help however!

make this appeal to more types of producers while keeping those interested in its current capability.  and if youre upset by me saying these things, dont be.

that would be cool on the preenfm2 as well!  whenever we get around to it.  maybe?  did everyone move on already?

great work on the preenfm3!! really. the 0.97 firmware feels already very good! sound quality is also much improved over "old" preenfm2 model.

how do you mean?

i was always under the impression ambika had the synth on the mainboard while the exchangeable filters had their own board.  oh well, you learn something new every day

ambika is actually a synth card with 6 filter boards.  ive had one for a long time

so... unison would probably not need a filter for every voice, reducing cpu and perhaps ram?  i dont know.

Does anyone know what power cable / vc to use for the preenfm3? I'm getting a ground loop noise using my usb cable and want to switch to external power.

check this product out:

i dont really understand the technical problems you mentioned.  i think it might fit in the polyphony screen:  make the unison setting by turning the knob past 1 and dynamically limit the settings according to how many voices you have left that are unallocated.  example:  U2, U3, U4... U14 etc, and maybe detune can live in the mod matrix?  if its impossible technically then i understand but i have no idea about technical limits.  maybe its an idea for preenfm3?

would you have interest in reducing polyphony and adding more sound shaping stuff like maybe a master effects section with filters and distortions etc maybe a comb delay...   i think enough people use preenfm2 as a bass synth...  if it were a mono synth per part that would shave off a lot of cpu at least.  i mean i mostly use mine as a mono synth with 4 layers.

I don't have any plan for that.
But i'm as usual of course ready to help anyone who wants to give that a try.

another great feature would be to allow unison + detune + spread.  this could make the preenfm2 into a big fuzzy bulldozer!  and with a master effect like distortion etc. look out!

What does prevent you to do that today ? (OK there's not master effect).
But unison is doable.
It requires a little work, load the same preset in the 4 instruments.. assigne same midi channel or use global midi channel.
Detune and pan the different operators of the 4 instruments.
Reminder to make your life easier : "Mix, pan, env edit: hold 3 to modify all other operators of the same type (carrier/modulator) at the same time"

im not overstepping my bounds by asking for features most other synths already have am i?

im not opposed to work, but this would make a unison count of 4 when im trying to access as many as ive got.

but i see.  i dont want to annoy so i guess ill learn to code

i would use the 4 parts as layers in a larger patch.  it gives you 4 filters instead of one.
