Title: super slow LFO?
Post by: ericd on December 03, 2020, 07:37:41 PM
Hi Xavier

Would there be any way to have the option to make LFO rates really really slow- like one cycle takes 5, or 10, minutes, or  even longer?

I don't know what the technical limitations of this are so maybe it isn't possible? Or maybe there is already a way to do this I haven't found?

The option to select usr wavefiles for LFOs' would be fun too.

What about modulating the LFO frequency with the envelope sustain set to 0.01 and attack, decay, and release are set to 0 (so it acts like a fixed value)?

It's a nice suggestion. I gave it a try and it gives the same result as just setting the LFO frequency to .01 (I didn't time it but it seemed like about the same length of time). I'm wondering about even longer cycles to make reeaaaallly slow changes to the IM indexes.

I'll try doing it via external MIDI control, but I was just curious if it's possible to do with the FM3 alone.

0.01s is the slower you can get because of the user interface.
Which is 100 seconds period or 1min40.

Don't know how to easily allow to make it slower from control surface.

No problems, it was just something I was playing around with. I realised I probably need to use an analog synth for what I wanted anyway, because the increments in IM amount (eg. 0.5 ->0.6) are too noticeable in digital.

The OT can send pretty slow LFO over MIDI so I used that.
