Title: Preen Fm2 Ableton issues
Post by: elibro on August 05, 2022, 07:17:51 PM
Hey y'all,

I just purchased a preen fm2 and am struggling to get it to work through Ableton. I am using midi over usb (I have turned it to In/Out in the settings) and have plugged the usb into my (Windows) computer. Whilst I can select the preen fm2 as an external device to send midi to it is not playing the sound through Ableton. The unit works fine I am just a bit stumped as to what is going wrong.

The algo numbers flash when I press down on keys so it is receiving midi, how do I get it back out into Ableton?

In the Ableton manual it says when using midi over usb I need to select the device as an audio device, is there a driver I need for my computer?

I am yet to try a different DAW to see if it is an Ableton problem. I hope someone can help but I appreciate this might not even be a problem with the Preen itself and so may be difficult to answer! All suggestions welcome, I'm really stumped as to what to try next!

Cheers!

Hi,

The preenfm2 does not have Audio over USB. Only midi.
With ableton or any other DAW, if you want to get the sound in your DAW mixer, you need to use an additional audio track, and plug Jack cable from the preenfm to your audio interface.

So you have one midi track to send midi over USB from Ableton to the preenfm2
And one audio track to send audio over JACK cable from preenfm2 to Ableton.
