I have been exploring your Element patch bank these last couple of days, after having lost interest in all things synthesis for a while.

Really love the Lithium patch in particular and plan to try and make a track just based on modulating the parameters. You can get close to some of those Gabor Lazar/Mark Fell type sounds that I love so much. Such crisp and sonorous tones all at the same time- love it!

Bumping this thread as I could also use some guidance as to how the values given in these videos map over to the Preen (FM3)

Thanks for the clarification.

I am talking about the FM3 yes, but the bigger problem for me is my lack of knowledge about firmware. I wouldn't know where to start and probably not something I have the time to learn at this point in my life!

But at least now I know what those links are ;D

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately for me the information about adding CC is beyond my level (it may be 'easy' for some but I don't even understand what the information in those github links is!!).

You are right that the OT doesn't send NRPN but the Midi Events Processor can convert CC to NRPN so I might be able to get someone to help me work that out.

Thanks again.

hmm, perhaps I can ask this question another way.

Currently OP shape cannot be changed by MIDI CC, correct?

Is it possible to change OP shape with a sysex message, if I can work out what the sysex command should be?

Glad it's worked out.

The 'push encoder to enter' function is one of the great sources of frustration and confusion for all new OT owners!

This is probably more a 'MIDI' noob question than a FM3 question as such.

How could I change the shape of an OP (let's say OP2) via MIDI with an Octatrack as MIDI controller? There is not a CC assigned to this.

The MSB number is 0 and the LSB number is 45, I want to switch between shape OFF (0) and Sin (1).

Is it possible directly with CC messages from the Octatrack?

If not, I could use a MIDI Event Processor by mapping a CC to a sysex command. How do I work out the sysex message to control the OP shape?

Thanks

Incredible stuff. Thanks for the ongoing support and updates.

in T1 MIDI page : Pt:1 ONE MIDI CH:-- (i think there must be some number ???)

This is the main issue. You need to go into the Setup page of MIDI Track 1 on your OT and set it to Ch1. Remember to press the encoder to 'save' the channel. (Of course, plug a MIDI cable from OUT on the OT to IN on the Preen)

This will make OT MIDI track one send MIDI information on Ch1. Your Preen Instrument 1 should now be triggered when you put a trigger on OT MIDI track 1. (You can configure the Preen so each Instrument is controlled by any MIDI channel you choose. By default, Inst 1 receives Channel 1).

Are you just trying to control the Preen with the OT? If yes, you can ignore all those midi settings in the first part of your post- that is for setting up the audio channels on the OT to be controlled by an external MIDI device.

You can also add that cc#30 is for Feedback modulation

I figured there must be some technical limitations otherwise it would already be implemented.

what are you trying to modulate with an operator?

I suppose the most obvious use would be for Amplitude Modulation (modulate mix1 with op2 for example). As far as I can see there are no sources in the matrix that go far into audio range?

Hi Xavier

Would it be possible to make Operators a source option in the matrix?

This is a great reference - thanks for posting.

Robert Henke (aka Monolake) has some videos on this. He uses Ableton Operator but it is fairly simple to translate across to the Preen.

I must admit when I read the suggestion, I didn't really think that making the bottom row of buttons select the OP would be that big a deal. But now that it's there, it has made navigation noticeably smoother. Nice one.
