When the screen goes white, you can press MENU + INST-.

OK- easy.

How is your preenfm3 powered ? Usb or DCin ?
If DCIn what is the number of mA it can provide.

AC adaptor- It says output 9v---1.66A- is that the number you need?

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / FM3 Screen 'crash' and mix saves (0.97b)
« on: November 27, 2020, 01:10:43 PM »
Encountering some issues tonight with FM3.
The set up is just 2 instruments loaded in slots 1 and 2.
Inst 1 has 4 voices, Inst 2 has 1 voice, Inst 3-6 turned to 0 voices.
Playing around with the Seq and with Arp on inst 1-2.
The MIDI is very simple, only sending notes from the Reface DX recorded into the sequencers (it doesn't send any cc)
So after a 4 bar sequence is recorded the Fm3 is basically playing itself.
Both Inst set to MIDI Ch1.

1- The screen will just go white/grey after a while. I can't find a consistent cause but it's happening every couple of minutes. The sound keeps playing (the seq and arps are running) until I disconnect the power.

EDIT- this one might be user error on my part: 2- when this happens, the Mix setting I was using won't load. So, l'm messing around, I save the Mix to Mix bank 1 mix00, keep messing around and the screen goes. Reboot, try to load from Mix Bank 1 mix00, and the unit becomes unresponsive. I guess the file gets corrupted at 1 above, and then the FM3 freezes when you try to load that file again.

That's all the details I can think to report but I can check anything you think is relevent.

Its very simple.
Remove: 2pcs phillips head screws on the front and 6pcs 6.35mm jack nuts on the back.

As someone who breaks out in a cold sweat at the sight of a screwdriver, I can confirm Ardi is right. It is easy. Even though it still took me a while to realise the 6 jack nuts are the ones holding the audio outputs in place (seriously  :-[)

Ah- I get it now- thanks. I thought I was missing some clever workaround to load extra instruments!

I guess we are among the early adopters of the FM3 and will discover various bugs etc along the way. I can say this though, I don't know Xavier at all but based on this forum, he is incredibly committed to fixing them. Even though it must drive him insane, he has also been really clear that he needs the feedback from users in order to iron the bugs out. I wish I knew more about programming (i.e. anything) to be of more help.

Not sure I understand. How did you get 5 instruments loaded and assigned to 5 MIDI channels, only using 4 instrument slots? Is there a way to load more than one instrument to a mixer slot?  Using program changes?
Maybe I am completely misunderstanding what you meant.

I was setting up five different instruments on different MIDI channels, controlling from a sequencer, and everything working really well.

Wait- so you were able to load an instrument into slot 5?

Yes, same here. I dial to slot 5 or 6 on the mixer, press menu, press Preset, then press 'Load' and the unit freezes.

Good idea lokki to start this thread.

As I posted elsewhere, I really like the implementation of midi note range per instrument. I might have simply overlooked this in Preen FM2 (?) but in any case,  it's really handy.

The  display screen is really helpful and well thought out I think. lokki makes a few minor suggestions, but overall the interface is super easy to navigate once you see how it's structured.

I have had a few issues with hanging notes: I need to play around a bit more to see if I can work out if there's a consistent reason.

I am really excited by the 6 audio outputs and the flexibility with how these are assigned. I know 0.97 has changed how the output stage works so I am looking forward to messing around and will report back.

I installed the new bootloader with webdfu and it is now 1.07  ;D

Just thought I would report this message came up in webdfu: maybe it doesn't matter because the bootloader is now 1.07 anyway.

Firmware Download (write to USB device)

p3_boot_1_07.bin

Erasing DFU device memory

Copying data from browser to DFU device

Wrote 65744 bytes

Manifesting new firmware

DFU GETSTATUS failed: ControlTransferIn failed: NetworkError: A transfer error has occurred.

Done!

Oh this is amazing! Can't wait to hook it up.

The other feature which I'm really pleased about in FM3, that I only just stumbled on, is the ability to assign the midi note range per instrument. Using the simple looper of the Reface DX (or any basic midi keyboard/controller) you can create a sequence with 6 parts (7 including the DX's own output). Like a zone function on a keyboard but at the synth end.

I don't know if you can do this with the FM2 and I just never noticed, but it's a handy feature.

Who needs the OT anyway!

Will have a look this week end.

Thanks Xavier.

EDIT- is there a current list of SD cards that are now fully compatible with 0.96?

OK- that has fixed the display issue with the Sandisk card!

But not the Lexar - still gets 'SD Card Error' in the same spot where the junk text was with the Sandisk.
Let's forget about the Lexar card for now!

With the Sandisk- Still having the SD card access problem on win 7 and win 10.

I don't understand why it's fine when I remove the card and put it in a card reader, the computer reads it perfectly, can save files to it etc. But when in SD Access mode in the Preen, the computer thinks it needs to be formatted.

EDIT - after the PC says to format the card, if I wait a moment before I press cancel a message pops up:

E:/ is not accessible.
The volume does not contain a recognised file system.
Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.

I tried reverting to firmware 0.95 but that made no difference either.

The FM3 folder has two bin files

I'm on Win7.

I can try to reformat the Lexar card it was just empty and I have no memory of what I ever used it for!

EDIT- reformatted the Lexar SD card with their program. Same result when I hold menu and boot  'SD Card Error'.

When I reboot into normal mode, I can load and save patches.

But if boot straight into into normal mode from off, I cannot access the patches.

I did as suggested. Reformatted the card FAT32, 32kb, The result is the same. When I hold menu and power up the machine, this is the display attached.  The PC still says, when I go into SD mode, that I need to format the disk.

I tried another SD card I had lying around- I think it's pretty old- Lexar Platinum II SDHC 16GB 300x 45 MB/s. I put the FM3 folder on it, when I booted up the Preen display said 'SD CARD ERROR'

I don't know if this helps at all; SETTINGS.txt contains this:

# Usb Midi
#   0=Off, In, In/Out
usbmidi=2

# Receives
#   0=None, CC, NRPN, CC & NRPN
midireceives=3

# Sends
#   0=None, CC, NRPN
midisend=2

# Program Change
#   0=No, Yes
programchange=1

# Boot To
#   0=Default, Bank, Mixer, DX7
boot=0

# Encoder Driver
#   0=12, 24, 12i, 24i
encoders=1

# Test Note
testnote=60

# Test Note Velocity
testvelocity=120

# Arp in Preset
#   0=No, Yes
arpinpreset=0

# Unlinked edit
#   0=No, Yes
unlinkededit=0

# Boot Sound
#   0=No, Yes
bootsound=0

Can I ask- bootloader 1.05 is now on the Preen itself- not on the SD Card? If I try a brand new SD card with the FM3 folder will 1.05 still be installed on the Preen? (sorry for my ignorance- as I said before I am really not a computer person)
