preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: MPE?

A step further would be not be limited to the 6 instruments.
And have a smarter MPE with 15 notes.

Would be great  :)

It would - to have bitimbrality would be a huge bonus and integrate nicely with controllers like the linnstrument that allow for left and right splits. The sensel morph can be worked in this way too... I guess it's all about configuring the controller channel?

I'm not sure how much of a mess MPE is - it's great at what it does on the synths I've used where integrated. Pressure/aftertouch and bend, velocity per note... but yes, each note or voice needs its own channel.

Yes MPE is possible with both preenfm2 and 3.

You get a 4 voices instrument with pfm2 and 6 voices with preenfm3.
Just load the same preset in all instrument, then set the global midi channel to the one you want to use (usually 1).
And set channel 2,3,4... for the instrument 1,2,3 etc...
Control change 74 (brightness) is supported in pfm2, i just realized it's missing in pfm3. I will add.

Many thanks for the reply, that's great - it's similar to how I set up MPE in the xpander. Is there any chance it will ever be taken a step further so that all six voices (with the 3) can be edited as one, so that you can tweak the parameters of all six voices at the same time?

Is MPE a possibility with the preen 3 at some point? Would be a great option imo.

Thanks, i'm glad you like it. I like it too  :)
The idea of a modular randomizer like this was not from me... someone suggested it in the discussion thread some time ago in this forum. So thank you all  :)

Nicely done, think that was me and was a rip off from the MB6582 way of doing things. Great to see more developments, I've moved on my preen but will hopefully be back at some point in the future to try out the news things!

Any way to have whichever pattern I was working on last (or even just location #1-4) open on booting the machine?

The mb6582 has an interesting implementation- you can choose which sections to randomize, like oscs, modulations, filter, seq etc. Would be interesting if a similar approach was adapted to the preen engine, and would be a good solution to the unusable outcome problem.

That sounds like a great idea. Thanks...   :)

No sir, than you!  8)

Im sure you have checked this already but its worth mentioning that the midi in and out are the opposite way around to that of the plastic case- ie the panel legend for in is wired to out if you follow the build thread. You tried plugging into the other one?

Forgive me for throwing out ideas that I have no concept of whether they are possible to realise, or the required skills to make them so but...

One of the things I love to do in the analogue world is FM with sine waves ran into wavefolders. I've often wonders what yamaha style 'FM' might sound like with the sine waves animated in this way- pretty amazing I'd have thought! I'd have thought realising that would take a ton of processing power though?

Imagine this sort of thing on 6 operators! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXr01PSF7iw

In hindsight setting the levels on the filter page is no biggie at all- just scroll through with the ins button or assign to the performance knobs if I want to do manual fading (which I pretty much never do with anything!).

Glad some others have an appetite for bandpass...  8)

Thanks very much for the input! The volume distortion was my end rather than the preen's I think- forgot I had something on the mixer inserts!  :)

I wonder if a nice shortcut/additional page would be a level control page. I guess I could set one up on performance mode but wonder if an instrument levels page would be more practical? Of course, 'just' a bandpass filter would be plenty... FM + bandpass = made for one another!

And well, I'm very impressed indeed! Had a bit of fiddling finding the sweet spot on the volume- was getting a bit of distortion into the signal at max, I assume this is normal? Anyway, after that I had a great time- interface is uncluttered and straightforward, the dx7 patch loading is excellent, sound is very nice indeed- Im extremely pleased with it, ta very much for putting this together!

Now for the inevitable questions/request:

- polyphony is affected by the number of operators used? What is the maximum polyphony for each voice in each config? ie if I had a 6 op thing going on each instrument am I right in thinking the maximum is 48 ops, so 2 voices per channel?

- filters- I like what you have done there, but any chance of adding a bandpass? I do love me some bandpass...

- mixing- how do I set the overall level of each instrument? (I'll RTFM and delete that one if I find an answer!)
