here is the 8timbres version with the env fix by xavier, currently untested so let me know if it does not work properly.

hey stelpa,

this time i did not see your comment!

i will update the firmware, the change seems easy enough. give me a couple of days, i am a bit busy at the moment. if you don't hear back again, don't hesitate to ask again.

cheers

well yes and no... you see, when you use a sound with less harmonics, the headroom becomes a problem pretty fast. you can hear a distorted sound on a sine VERY quickly. that is why i think it is smart to have it that way. also where would you draw the line? have it always at 16 voices (the dac setting that is) so that when you play monophonic you only use 1/16th of the dynamic range? hmm.

to circumvent your volume problem in live settings i would create at least one instrument which fills up all the voices. once you need more on the bass for example, you simply reduce on the other instrument first.

that being said, it would be relatively trivial to change this in firmware. (xavier has done this for the 8timbres version and it is just one calculation that has to be changed)

ground. there are many places on the board where you find ground, maybe easiest is the power adapter.

yes, this is used to keep aliens from your preenfm. just put it over the display, so they cannot read your secret patches :-)

no seriously, this is a shield that belongs between the display and the pcb, to reduce the high frequency noise that the oled display emits. see here: http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=69159.0

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / pwm
« on: January 29, 2018, 12:35:11 AM »
hi there,

i thought about extending the 2048 point square wave to add another 1024 points of "low" so that i could then change the onset (first value to be read from the array when used in an oscillator) via a matrix source. this would allow a pwm effect when square wave is selected, which can be a VERY interesting sound. it is like a speaking synth :-) (at least when i try this on the blofeld, but maybe it only works in pm synths, not true fm)

looking at the square table it is no strict 1 and 0 based square wave, it is somewhat antialiased i think.

could this be feasible?

haha perfect! yes for once i did look in the docs and not in the synth, since i was not home...

hi xavier,

before i dive into it, is it feasible to add another matrix destination? i would like to control the release part of a sound, so i would like to adjust all the release parameters with breathcc for example.

glad you got the usb sorted! screen issue is not normal. bad connection seems more likely tbh. maybe resolder those pins (on the screen and on the header) do you have a multimeter? you could check the connections and also look for shorts.

you may also post a picture of the display with the lines (so maybe xavier can debug quicker) and a picture of your soldering on the display and the display headers (so we can see possible shorts/bad joints)

ok. the usb-stick directly on the pc works? how did you format it? /pfm2/ directory created? (just pointing out the obvious)

most likely your usb-stick is bogus... try reformatting it or if this does not help, try another usb stick. from the faq:

Quote
My PreenFM does not boot (display full of square)

If it's stuck with the display full of square, the PreenFM2 cannot read your Usb Stick.
Be sure "/pfm2/" directory exists.
Try to reformat your USB stick and reinstall /pfm2/ on it (yes it was sufficient to several people).
If still no success, try an other stick. <=4Gb are more likely to work.

try only pluggin in the headphones after startup. also try not to insert the stereocable fully, leave it a little out so that both channels connect to the mono output (you will get sound on both headphones)

i remember having this problem also sometimes when i had the headphones fully plugged in (could not find a pattern)

what happens when you are in bootloader mode and access the usb stick via pc/mac? is the stick recognized by the pc/mac? can you move/delete/create files/folders?

what do you see on normal startup on the display? where does it freeze?
