ok tried it and i can confirm no more stuck low notes, great! but (there is always a but sorry) i get stuck notes on the ones that i play. it happens once in a while (also with the pd patch) it is not such a bad issue, because you can kill it by playing some more notes (but interestingly they have to have a different pitch).

so half way there i would say :-)

thanks!

EDIT:
playing with it some more, i get stuck notes also that i cannot stop anymore...have not found a pattern though.

one other suggestion, if you don't mind

standard on synths is +-24 semitones maximum pitchbend range. so the modmatrix scale should either go to 12, or a halfstep should only be 0.4 :-)

348
just one quick confirmation,

are you aware that the setting is twofold? the preenfm is 4 part multitimbral, so you set midich1 to a channel and midich2 to a channel (via the rightmost encoder).

the notes sent on channel 1 should still sound when midich2:2 is enabled, but they should only go to channel:1.

so to summarize you can set the preenfm2 to for example:

midich1:1
midich2:2
midich3:10
midich4:6

this would play your synth 1 on preenfmchannel1, synth 2 on preenfmchannel2 and drums 1 to 4 on preenfmchannel3 (which does not make much sense)

i hope this helps!

if you see the 2 flashing on the preenfm2 that means that channel two eceived a note and it indeed has to be either no preset loaded or voice number set to zero. try loading a (different) preset in voice 2 or adjust voice number

thanks a lot! will try as soon as possible.

also, just a thought...you could make this fadeout process an option, some people really like clicky envelopes :-) (for some bass sounds it is great)

xavier,

pheew, good to know you can reproduce it. i am not going crazy :-)

351
that should work yes.

1)are you sure you are sending something on channel 2? can you check with another synth/software?
2)do you have any sound loaded in the i2 slot on the preenfm? i think by default, there is nothing loaded there.

actually scratch that! it works perfectly fine!!! I was using one of my very cheap controllers, which only outputs 7-bit pitch bend (high nibble). sorry for the noise..

and also, nice smoothing of the mod wheel.

great, thanks Xavier!

the only thing now is, that it would be nice to get the old behavior back as an option for everything but pitch wheel...

i works as expected! cool. one thing i noticed is that it is quite "steppy", when i bend faster. i have set the pitchbend to +- one octave and it is really noticeable, sounds like it's running a chromatic scale :-)

hi xavier, find attached a puredata patch that makes the preenfm glitch on linux. the startup values make it glitch after about 10 seconds, enable aftertouch (via the toggle) and it will glitch almost instantly. happens with all the presets i tried (dx7, preenfmbank) but only if the attack is short enough to actually make the note sound. it seems to be indeed very short notes that trigger the problem (5ms between noteon and off) or if you have aftertouch going on the notes can also be longer. experiment with the patch. do you need any "assistance" with setting up puredata (midi out and stuff) or are you familiar with it?

thanks again for looking into it!

thanks xavier, this is great news!! i will try tomorrow and let you know. may i add that the current o*fr modulation implementation can be VERY nice for modwheel. you can get some stop and go sounds from it (going all the way down to zero hertz and up again). if there is a possibility to choose the mod behaviour, that would be fantastic. pitchbend of course should always be "tone/note" dependant.

the usual way is something like this...
bendfactor = ((bendrange * 100.0) / 8192.0);
bendrange would be the semitones that you want to bend up and down

cents = bend * bendfactor;
bend is 14 bit between -8192 and 8192

Final Frequency = Frequency * 2^(cents/1200);

for a bendrange of 12 this would give you a factor of 0.5 to 2.

i'm sure you already figured out that much though :-) the difficult part will be to implement this with pm, right? do you have to shift every single oscillator?

357
i will try to reproduce the problem with a puredata patch on linux and osx, do you know puredata (http://msp.ucsd.edu/software.html)? if so i could share the patch and you can try it on your linux machine as well.

i am on osx 10.11 , playing the midi file directly to the preenfm usb via ableton live.
but it also happens with my midi controller (without any computer involved, direct midi-din connection)
i therefore don't think it is a daw specific issue. note that most daws (e.g. ableton live) send an all note off event when you stop the clip.
so it may be hard to hear. (best to make the clip longer and let it run some more after the last note has played)
i use the overclocked firmware 2.03o but i tried the non overclocked version 2.03 as well and it still happens.

my midi controller works fine with multiple other hardware and software synths, so i can rule that out as well.

i use the preenfm in multitimbral mode, all 4 channels have loaded the same preset, because my controller sends on 4 channels, it is much like a bass guitar, but midi. presets are all mono. i have tried a bunch of the dx7 presets, i'm sure it happens on the first preset from the dx7 set, i just adjusted it to be mono, with some glide and aftertouch going to im*. i then loaded this preset into all four instrument slots. not all channels get stuck at the same time, if i just play on one channel, only that one will have a stuck note, so there is no crosstalk or something... my preenfm2 is not at my home atm, so i cannot check if it happens with all presets but i am sure it was more then one.

thanks for looking into it. would it help if i post the exact settings of a sound where it happens?

yeah the resistor is on the other side of the board (viewed from the top) so you will have to take it out.

i would at least give it a try with the 9v wall adapter.

that said, the resistor mod is easy to do, the pcb is very nice and easy to solder. the hardest part will be the oled change. cut a leg off and connect a wire from one contact to another.

good luck!!
