reinstalling firmware
« on: February 18, 2020, 11:40:44 AM »
hi again,

i think I might have messed up some the usb drive. I tried to upgrade firmware to 2.11 by copying the 2.11 zip file to the usb drive and unzipping it. It then creates a build folder. I put all the files into the drive and plug in the usb & start the preenfm up. now i get a blank screen. What's going on? Should I reinstall the firmware again? What are the steps I should do to reinstall the firmware?

Hello.. My answer will not help you more, cause I'm having troubles too, installing version 2.11..
I unzipped the zip file to pfm2.. I also have the "build" subfolder, ok ok..
But then what does "unmount before exit" ? Means that I must, on my computer,  click on "unmount drive safely" or whatever it is in English (Extraire le lecteur en toute sécurité)..
Ok, that's what I have done..
And then exit, and then I press the [op] button, and it says "no /pfm2/ directory"..

My drive is as follow:

[pfm2]
     \_____[built]
                [DX7]
                [scala]
                BANK.bnk
                BOOGALU.bnk
                COMBO.cmb
                FIRSTTRY.bnk
                FUNKY12.bnk
                p2_205.bin
                p2_205o.bin
                Preen.bnk
                PREEN1.bnk
                SETTINGS.txt

Thanx to anyone who will take the time to help..
Have a good evening..
Thierry

Hi,

Upgrade firmware page is here:
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/upgrade-firmware/
Easiest way is to do (1) to upload the *.bin files in /pfm2.
Then (2) to flash.
Yes it's better to unmount flash disk from you computer before "exit" on the preenfm2 to be sure the file copy is finished.

When using zip file, you must not copy "build" directory.
Copy *.bin file in /pfm2/ folder.

Ok Xavier.. Thanx a lot.. But, when I do (2), = try to flash,  PreenFM2 keeps saying that there is no /pfm2/ directory, though I can see it when I do (1)..I have deleted the "build" directory, but that changes nothing..

No '/pfm2/' directory ?
That's weird the bootloader cannot see it. I don't see any reason for that.

Did you create this folder yourself ? Does it contain a capital letter when seen from your PC ?
You can try to backup your key, than try to recreate the /pfm2/ folder and put the *.bin inside.

The folder was created when I first installed version 2.06, I guess..
But it''s ok, I deleted everything, and created a new pfm2 folder..
No capital, the pfm2 folder is at the root of the USB key and is simply called pfm2..
inside the folder, are ;

p2_2.11.bin
p2_2.11o.bin
p2_boot_1.11.bin
p2_cv_2.11.bin
p2_cv_2.11o.bin

There is no other folder, neither at the root, nor inside pfm2..

Should I format the USB key ?
Thanx a lot for your help..

Should I format the USB key ?

Try without formating first and if does not work reformat :)
As i don't know what's wrong, it's difficult to give any advice.

Ok, I formatted the key, and it didn't work better..
So I tried with another key, and it worked..
So it simply was that the key was... oh my god !! dead ???????

Merci beaucoup Xavier.. et bonne soirée à toi..
