[Resolved] Newly built, no audio or indication of incoming midi

Just built this great synth from a full kit, very excited to play it but I get a little bit of a crackle from the right channel and no chime as well as nothing indicating that incoming midi messages are received. Any idea of what I should check? Menu browsing, etc works great.

Well, some good news—I had soldered the wrong MIDI pins. Still no audio though, unfortunately.
