Mystery part
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:13:17 AM »
I assembled my Preen2FM tonight and everything went great. However, included in my kit was THIS PART that I couldn't find on the BOM or anywhere in the instructions. Any idea what this is supposed to be used for? Did I miss something?

That looks like a ready-made shield to avoid the OLED high frequency parasite problem.
You can read about it here.

yes, this is used to keep aliens from your preenfm. just put it over the display, so they cannot read your secret patches :-)

no seriously, this is a shield that belongs between the display and the pcb, to reduce the high frequency noise that the oled display emits. see here: http://ixox.fr/forum/index.php?topic=69159.0

Thanks for the great info!

What do I do with the wire on the shield? Where should it connect to?

ground. there are many places on the board where you find ground, maybe easiest is the power adapter.
