[Fixed] Preen FM2 boot up problem with DIN MIDI IN

Hi - I have a Preen FM2 which works fine.

But...if I have the DIN MIDI connected to a MIDI source the Preen refuses to boot up.

If I remove the DIN MIDI input connector, it boots up OK.

USB MIDI works fine.

Anyone else had this problem?

Hi,

Never heard of such problems. Could be a shortcut in the soldering.
Did you try with different cable and different midi source ?

Does midi out work ?

I just discovered that the Preen boots up OK with DIN MIDI connected if I unplug the USB cable. Is this normal?

I haven't checked the MIDI OUT as I can't get the Preen to recognise the DIN MIDI in data - there's no MIDI channel indicator on the top page.

Also, under TOOLS, the only Setting I can see is the USB MIDI option. I can't see all the other Settings, e.g. MIDI CH selector, MIDI Thru enable, etc.

I can access all the other Settings by turning the bottom row of encoders.

Yes it's normal it boots OK
What is not normal is that it does not boot up with USB+Din MIDI cables plugged.

When you have both USB + DCIn, check that that only one 5V source comes to the preenfm.
Jumper are named JMP1 and JMP2 on PCB R5. You only want JMP1.
They are named DCin and USB5v on PCB R6. You only want DCin.

I've re-wired the two DIN connectors, correctly this time (!) and the Preen boots up OK with the DIN connected.
