preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: key range, velocity range

@Xavier I found a workaround to my use-case :-D
(so to use the PreenFm2 as a one-channel, note-split limited "percussion" module with the KSP drum seq mode and 6-voice Volca Drum on Ch10)

The trick is with the Note Scaling, setting two limiters that target volume

Note1 Midi Scaling: +Exp 35 Flat
Note2 Midi Scaling: Flat 30 +Exp
(numbers are arbitrary, but some 1-2 relation like this seems to work)
Not1 -> -10 -> *Mix
Not2 -> -10 -> *Mix

This way the notes (volumes) are limited to approx 4-5 keys, so the 4 channels can be split into some 20-25 notes range, which is perfectly ok
Of course, the Osc needs to be on fixed freq
What I reckon is an issue with this is that the notes are triggered anyway (that are being sent to the other gear on the same channel), so it is probably problematic in regard to polyphony and note-stealing

Unfortunately, the KSP has a fixed MIDI channel per (Drum)track  :'(

I'm not at all good at coding, couldn't make a change like this... I think it could be on the pages part where the Instrument settings are (ALG, Filter, IM) as a new page with MIDI note range A0-G9 selection, and maybe also some midi volume/pan setting to fill up the encoder usage?  ::)

@Xavier if possible, please include the option for the MIDI note range limit per channel for preen fm2 also, I would also find it useful, especially for some percussive setup, eg. channel 10 note 70 -> ch1, note 71 -> ch2 ... and control these from KeyStep Pro Drum mode. Isn't that more-less a simple copy-paste of the code from preen fm3?

The preenfm2 respond to midi CC10 to pan an instrument. It's not reset when you load a new preset.
>> Thanks, works like that, I can make it from my Sequencer

But adding a shortcut (button + enoder) to modify the panning should be easy.
>> Do you mean by Performance P1-4 buttons via the Modulation Matrix?

Hi Xavier!

Thanks for this great project, and glad to see it is improving also, now with preenfm3! :-)

Is it possible to have a per-channel Mixer setting also for the preenfm2, where the volume/pan settings can be made globally for the selected Channel, and not per Operator? As for the pan setting, it could hard-pan the Channel making it easier to make a Left-Right Audio Out split to two mono channels. And it should stay globally, so the newly loaded sounds don't change it.
As there are 4 knobs, there could be a place also for some other Performance settings, maybe the MIDI channel, and also for some select CC-number (just quick ideas, maybe there could be some even more meaningful settings)

Wow, this sounds great! Thank you for improving the PreenFM2!
Will flash it now and play around. The added Dst2 in the Matrix is an immediate big-like!

Wow, fantastic! Usually I don't like computer editors for hardware gear, but the PreenFM2 editor really helps to have good overview, and make detailed edits more comfortable. To have better visible, meaningful names of v.2.11 filters is also a big help.
Thanks Xavier!

To have separate USB MIDI and DIN MIDI channels is also a big help, I use USB for editor and DIN for sequencing, very helpful.
Only issue I noticed is that the USB editor editing (NRPN?) messages leak through to the DIN MIDI also, so when I change some parameters the gear down the MIDI chain (in my case Shruthi) sometimes also reacts to these and have some glitches. I could solve this issue to have PreenFM2 the last in the MIDI chain, but if it is possible would be good to block this leaking, maybe to have an option in MIDI Thru settings that has this limitation option (Thru all, Thru MIDI, Thru USB) ?

. I hesitate for SAT.

@Xavier – I find Sat very nice on pure Sine-waves, can make nice Waveshaping.

Didn't have time recently to try out the other algos, but you are right about Txr1, Txr2 didn't find those very useful.
The different pole HP, LP, BP filters have subtle differences, that's true, maybe only the max. Res setting
LPx variations are also a bit so-so, but they can be useful to have multiple filters if possible.

Altogether it is definitely good to have the filters implemented in the official firmware, Toltekradiation did a wonderful work!

Wow, thanks! I finally uploaded the new effects, and they sound great!
Big thanks for keeping the order of the previous effects (adding new ones to the end of the list), so that older patches don't mess up the FX settings.

@Toltekradiation Thanks!
Didn't use much the LPx1-2 filters so far, so can't tell, but Fold adjustable parameter seems nice addition instead of the Mix

@Toltekradiation, thanks, I flashed the new OS, and it seems working nicely (no lags). I didn't test every FX thoroughly so can't really tell the difference for now, but if it improved – so better :)

Now what I would find an improvement, if we have so sophisticated FX section, is to have a bit more interaction with the Envelopes in the Matrix (eg. I always use Env1 for interaction with the Filter Freq on Note-Events), but maybe it is more a task for Xavier?
I think it would be nice to have modulation destination to control Env1 speed, globally or by parameters (Attack, Decay, Release). This way the Not1 could be used for controlling Env1 speed – good for Keyboard tracking of Env1.
Also would be nice to make available the Filter Parameter2 (eg. Resonance) in the Mod-Matrix. It is available on CC#72 btw.

@Toltekradiation definitely dive in to sound design, you deserve a bit fun also after the hard work on engineering ;-)
I hope these improvements will also get in to the "official" OS. @Xavier?

@Toltekradiation Thank you for the improvements, now it works really smoothly at my PreenFM2, fantastic  :)
I will test it thoroughly and let you know if I find some more tips for improvement, but for now it seems really-really great!
One thing I noticed with the file-naming is that the OS Flasher recognises the .bin only if it's filename is starting with p2_ Otherwise it is great you renamed them, so the filename truncation is much more informative!

Just a question, will the position of the effects move in some future version (planning adding some more), so I can track which parameters were saved with the patches? Now the old patches load in with a bit different FX, I guess because it saves the ID, and it changes if some new are added before.

Thank you so much for the great job you done with these improvements!

@Toltekradiation I understand there is a limitation in processing power... btw. you used the overclocked version (210o), but maybe the "regular" version is a bit less demanding? (just an idea)

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: New filters
« on: September 03, 2019, 10:13:40 AM »
@Toltekradiation Thanks, I'm really eagerly waiting to hear and test them! :-)

One thing I noted is that when I save the patches with the Filters, in the new version they are messed up, probably because of the numbered positions of the algorithms, and that they change eg. there are more filters before the Distortions?

Also, with the new OS, the parameter changes seem much more sluggish, eg. I have 4 Channels sequenced and I try to change a paramter and it increments only a few steps then stops, also the Inst change is much slower, with a blink of the LCD. Maybe these are already too much for the processor to handle? :-(

Can the filename of the bins be renamed so the PreenFm2 truncation of the characters is a bit more informative?
