"But can you post a picture of the device manager ?"
 ;)

With the STM32 folder open...
I'll check my version of dfu-util under windows when i'm at home.

OK not as bad as i thought.
Your computer see the device. At this point there were already a lot of USB communication between both.
But can you post a picture of the device manager ?
Even without the driver installed by zadig there is a device called "STM bootloader", so i'd like to see what you see.

Uninstall the driver (with removing local files) from the device manager - right click->properties->driver->unistall.
After, you should see a yellow exlamation mark beside "STM booloader".
And install again with zadig.
(Altitude said in a other post that didn't work for him the first time. Don't know if he had to change the default driver selected.)
Once the" STM32 Bootloader" shows up again properly try the dfu-util -l.
Also could you copy the output of "dfu-util -l". The version should show-up... v0.7 works. I don't know about the others.

« on: December 12, 2013, 11:31:38 PM »
Xavier, thanks for your quick reply, i have checked few times and it was 11 M and now i measure to make you a photo, and my multimeter say 1 M ... i don't understand ???
Let's go !

No problem  ;)
Some multimeters loose their reference point sometimes and show wrong values, specially for high ohm values.
Connecting both pins and waiting for a clean 0 to show up solve the problem for me when that occurs.

Hi,

Don't worry, that's not a problem at all as those 2 resistors are here to set the output to 0V when no sound.
That would work with 11M.

But I'm very surprised...
All the 1M  resistors come from the same source, i've just measured them again and they are 1Mohm.
I don't have any 11M i could have switched with.

Thanks  :)

You'll hear that some are very far...
This is something i can try to improve in a futur firmware.

I don't think it's your CERB40, it was flashed when you recevied it through the mini USB port.

What do you see in your device manager while in DFU mode ? (PreenFM plugged (USB or DC in), JMP3 shorted and direct computer to CERB40 mini usb).
Unplug the PreenFM, open the device manager then plug it... nothing move ?

Hi Tenchi,

Your Cerb40 has been flashed by me through the USB cable and tested , it boots, sends info the the display and responds to the buttons ;-)
Wasn't the cerb40  plastig bag open with the firmware version written on it ? I ask because i may have missed one.

I asked you to flash it again because  you had your JMP3 shorted during some operations, and i cannot know what command dfu-util you sent.
Some may erase the PreenFM bootloader.

I read several times and not sure i understand at which point it blocks.

What does it mean :
"In device manager showing as unspecified STM32 Boot loader"
Does it show up with a yellow eclamation mark ?

If yes that's the problem to solve.

If not, have you tried uninstalling it with "remove driver from disk" (or something like this) checked.

Please let me know with as much details as you can,

From what i understood it's not the same problem as Ryux, because he does not see at all the device in the device manager.

Thanks,

Xavier

Hi

The JMP3 was shorted, i removed the jumper and tried again with no luck.
All voltages at the points shown are correct. The LCD dims and brightens when moving the trimmer.
I've re flowed all solder joints and still nothing.
Any further hints?
Thanks

Yep..
put JMP3 back and reflash bootloader.. instruction here :
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/built-it/burn-firmware/
Last firmware version here : http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/download/

With booloader 1.02,  In bootloader mode (switch on + 1 of the 3 buttons), the led should light.

Let me know

I *thought* I checked it correctly and it did bounce as you described, but when I just double checked the non-pressed voltage is essentially zero. When pressed it does go to ground (all zeroes on the meter)

Is this low voltage the same for the other non-pressed buttons ?
Should be 3.3V when the button is non-pressed.

If the engine button is the only one, unpower the PreenFM2 and check the two button pins are not shortcut when the button is not pressed.
And that it is shorted when the button is pressed.

Maybe its a Win7 problem.

No it should work. I did many times on my windows 7 64 bits.

Are you on a USB hub ? Try to plug the CERB40 mini USB cable directly behind your computer.

Have you checked this ?
> "Also pin 9 of the resistor network should be at 3.3V if the button is not pressed and set to GND when button is pressed."
You can test this for all 7 buttons. Look at the red wire to see the currant path.

Also check and redo the middle pin of the encoders.

And the pin 3,5,6 of the CERB40 (see picture above).

Then check carefully the other 74HC165.
Use a sounding 0 ohm detector and look for any shortcut between 2 close point.

And let me know,

First, try with the PreenFM2 powered and with the CERB40 mini-USB connected to your computer directly, to be sure your CERB40->PCB cable is not faulty.

There are 2 totally different usage of the USB.

1 . DFU mode : to upgrade firmware (and bootloader).
This code is integrated to the STM32F4 microcontroller.
The PreenFM jump to this code if you switch on the PreenFM while pressing the "Mtx" button or switch on with JMP3 jumper shorted.
"dfu-util -l" should list the microcontroller as 4 different devices.
The Zadig tools driver is required. So if you cannot install it, it cannot work.
If it does not work you won't be able to update the bootloader but the firmware can be updated by 2 other methods. Flashing from USB stick is the easiest and fastest one.

2. Midi over USB
Disable by default : Must be enable through the settings : Tools->Set->Usb midi. Then the PreenFM2 must be rebot.
The PreenFM implements the regular MidiStreaming interface.
It should be seen as a midi interface named "PreenFM mk2". No driver needed.
I tested it on Windows 7 (64 bits), MacOS 10.8, different Linux/Ubuntu releases  and on a ipad with IOS 6.

Do you have both not working ?

Thanks for the feedback and questions, that will allow me to update the documentation.

How much precision are the Freq FTun values? (in steps or bits) and wich value range?
Is it possible take FTun to negative values?

Possible values are from -1.0 to 1.0 which correspond to a frequency variation of -5% to 5%.

Could 2nd operator set to 0.5 ratio? The web manual shows values from 1, to 4.00 and etc.

The manual is not clear an only give examples (i'll change that).
Possible frequency values for all 6 operators are from 0.00 to 16.00 with a step of 1/12 (= 0.0833) to allow decimal values such as 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4.

Is it possible to take negative travel of LFOs to get Ramp Down sawtooth ?

All LFO oscillator oscillate between -1.0 and +1.0.
Which can be moved with the Bias parameter to (-2, 0) by setting the bias to -1.

Is it necessary  re-trigger the note to hear the op. amount increments?

I"m not sure i anderstand this question.
I assume you're talking about the modulation index, which is the amount of modulation of an oscillator by another.
They can be modify realtime during a sound, which is the base of interesting sounds ;-)

JMP3 is unshorted, right ?

Here are the 3.3V in the attached png:
Check all the soldering point circled in orange.
