preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Richard D. James mentions Preen FM

Richard D. James mentions Preen FM in microtonal context

From comments on his soundcloud page:
"I’ve also got other bods to include it on numerous other devices, ill make a complete list at some point but others include Preen fm Tal sampler...etc etc.."

"Ive been quietly working behind the scenes now for years to get people to implement microtuning in hardware, prob been talking to a dozen more companies, got PreenFM to do it also but cant convince the dude to put in table editing"

Noticed this when messing around with 2.05:

When i have chord sequence playing by octatrack it sounds unstable. It can play full chord but rather frequently it plays only 1-2 notes of this chord randomly. Did not experienced this with previous FWs but i'm going to roll back to 2.03 (or earlier) and test it too. Micromodular plays same sequence like a clock without any skips. Had to check this with my custom Init patch on PFM2 but i rewrote it accidentally. Also when you browse preset with rather busy sequence playing PFM2 can freeze completely. Did not noticed this before too.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Paraphonic vs Polyphonic

Regarding paraphonic matrix was it made so because of lack of resources? It could be a huge drawback for someone i guess. Everyone is used to per-voice modulations these days IMO. For example global pitch modulation sounds strange and cheap a bit compared to per-voice vibrato which gives you a proper rich tones usually. Yeah you can do vibrato through modulation applied to 1Hz OP but..
Even my tx81z has per-voice LFO i quess (i can be wrong here though)
Filter could be still paraphonic though.

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Feature request: Microtuning

Hello Xavier and guys!
What do you think about ability to load scala tuning files or to set your own tuning?

For example you can microtune tx81z/dx11:

I feel myself being in 12-TET jail lately  :D

preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Few observations

First of all. I've found some quirks and wanna know, does this behavior is something intended to be.

1. When i change algorithms and available voice numbers in instruments overall loudness jumps significantly. Yes, 1-carrier Algo sounds louder than 2- or 3-carrier. And 1-voice instrument sounds even louder. Don't you think that this needs to be compensated or fine-tuned somehow? Nevertheless, this does not cause much inconvenience.

2. When i modulate OP1 by OP2 everything sounds fine, but when i connect OP3 to OP2 such way for example: OP3 -> OP2 -> OP1 with any modulation index greater than 0, timbre starts to 'beat' like there is 'detune' somewhere between OP3 and OP2. This kinda differs from 'classic'  FM behavior where modulating OPs with exact tuning produces static tone.

3. When i tweak IMs while holding key on external midi keyboard i get sound with one timbre and when i retrig this note i can get significantly different tone.

While browsing this bank my PreenFM freezes completely (on preset 4 or 5, around here) with fancy graphics on screen :D
