OLED case SVG issue?
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:12:12 PM »
I've just had a message from RazorLab where I was getting my Preen case made. Not sure what they're on about?

"I have noticed that your svg file still has the weird shape instead of the proper circle and two holes. I was wondering if you could send me the eps version of your latest order so I can cut it without the anomaly like last time."

I don't know if they mean the last time I had a Preen case done or if someone else has had one made their before?

I've seen an example of the problem, the MIDI socket holes go a bit pear shaped.

I've sent them an EPS version I exported from Inkscape which looked better, fingers crossed.

Ponoko powered companies (razorlab, formulor) seem to not really accept Inkscape svg file dispite they claim they do.
I've ordered an old version of CorelDraw and i hopefully will be able to provide SVG files they can read.

They sent me a picture of the file once loaded into their system.

I've exported the SVG as EPS with Inkscape, so maybe it will be okay now? I had to change some option though as it was converting bits of it to bitmap.

It all went quiet after then, so I can hope that it's okay. I'll find out tomorrow. Never had issues before.

Interesting, let me know...
Did you get normal "making price" (in addition to the price of the sheet) for the box ?

They've said the file is fine now.

The only export option I changed was "Rasterize filter effects", I unchecked that.

I've had no complaints from them about the price, it is about £20 shipped. I've gone for a single colour case.

That's exactly what they showed me, but in bitmap form.

I can only assume there's some attribute set in the SVG which usually gets ignored but isn't on their system?

Since you've had the non OLED version made it must be the same quirk in both files.

I've had nothing but problems with Inkscape when it comes to this stuff.  An old version of Corel is the way to go for CAM graphics. It does HPGL natively  also so you can do CNC engraving with it.  I'll usually switch to that from illustrator if I have a laser cut job that the ponoko bot doesnt like

My case arrived today and is perfect. Inkscape works, but export to EPS and switch off the settings as mentioned before.

The EPS export works ?
That's really good to know.  :D

I received my old version of Corel Draw but the ramp up is not easy... I'm really confortable with InkScape.
I'll try it, thanks for the feedback.

I'm having major issues with the inkscape SVG format

This is what the file looks like in illustrator:

And totally messed up in CorelDraw

When I export it as eps, it does show up correctly

Hi Altitude,

I use Inkscape and it seems that the svg it exports has problems with other apps as weel as with case builders (formulor).
I'm on vacation far from my main computer, i won' be able to give you files before next sunday.
But what you can try is to install inkscape, load the svg, then "save as" eps.
Uncheck "rasterize filter effect" then you should be able to load it in corel draw... I never tried Illustrator.

For the PCB measures in Kicad, i set a small scale, then i move the cursor on the first point of the measure, press "Space" (it sets the reference point).
Then move the cursor, the distance X,Y are shown from the reference point.
