Alps and screen alternatives
« on: December 15, 2016, 01:12:23 PM »
Hi forum/Xavier.

I received my board and chip/usb/connectors the other day- thanks!

Going through the BOM via Mouser, I note that both the screen and the Alps pots won't be in stock for another 14 weeks or longer (!!!). I can't wait that long. Do you have any links for alternatives to these two parts? I notice that you too are obviously having stock problems seeing that the OLED offered in the kit is white instead of yellow. Is it a matter of just choosing the white OLED alternative? And what would you recommend for a cheaper LCD screen? And those Alps pots. Is an alternative available, and where?

Happy xmas, and kind regards,

tom.

Thanks for leting me know about the pot.

There's a 30mm version of the ALPS pot :

The volume knob will stand a bit high over the top panel, so you can cut off 5mm yourself. The shaft is made of plastic.
I've done that already.

In my latest NoCaseKits i bought LCD to get cheaper kits. I bought them before the OLED were out of stock  ;)
You can find cheap/average LCD here :

Ebay also has lots of them.

Best,

Xavier

Hi Xavier

Thanks for the super-quick reply.

Those black on white displays possibly look even cooler than the white on black OLED displays! And $6 too? Bargain. :)

They're not as nice for real as they are on the pictures... Specially the back on white.
But they work fine and are cheap.

Maplin in the UK have the Yellow OLED's in stock (or at least they look like the same ones), but alas, and being quite typical of Maplin, they're really expensive.
