Midi not working [Fixed]
« on: March 02, 2020, 02:51:04 AM »
I just finished building the preen, it turns on no problem, it makes sound with the instrument button but I can't get a midi keyboard to work with it. All the connections are good, I've set everything to channel 1, usb midi is off... There must be something I'm missing, can anyone help? I love this thing and really want to get it working! Thanks

There's no secret with the midi. It should work without problem.

You can check the following  :
. The 6N137 in the correct position as well as the diode.
. The 2 midi in wires are not crossed, and that midi IN and midi OUT are not mixed.
. Midi channel in the setting is what you expect.
. Check electronic connection from the pfm2 PCB pins to the end of you midi cable (with a multimeter).

Yep, I installed the din ports upside-down and the wires were crossed.... Oops. Anyway works great now thanks for replying quickly! One other question if I can ask, there's a sound when changing patches, it's the same in between every patch, is that normal? I'm sure it's fine just thought I'd ask. Thanks again!

Yes it's normal to hear a BEEP when the patch you played is still ringing out and you go change it to another.

Hi there,

Sorry about "stealing' this thread, but I thought it is better than creating a new one.
I've finished building the Preen2, Van Daal kit, everything works, except din MIDI in and out.
I've checked the connections, everything works.

It doesn't matter if USB midi is in IN and OUT mode or completely disabled.

Any ideas?

Does USB midi work? (direct USB connection to your PC/Mac)

Double check the 2 pins you soldered on the Din5 Jack.
You may have swaped them.

Hello.

Follow this wiring colours.
The midi connector is mounted so that the Ground tab is low.

Oh, sorry about this, just saw your post, have not received the notification about it.
I've followed the picture and it seems that the pin numbers on the board, does not match the number on the MIDI sockets...
After swapping the wires on the connector, everything works fine.
Weird for sure, but it works, thank you very much!
