In real time the PreenFM CPU can handle 12 oscillators + 12 enveloppes.
Which makes:
. 4 voices with 3 operators algo
. 3 voices with 4 operators algo
. 2 voices with 6 operator algo

So you're right, with 2 operators algorithm you could get 6 voices.
But the sound you get with 2 operators would be very simple...

Anyway... it could be interesting to have a 2 operators algo with 6 voices.
I may add this in a future firmware.  ;)

The firmware 1.61 dont have any new presets.
But i keep them for a presets bank i'd like to build...
I'm glad you enjoy fm synthesis  :D

Thanks a lot for reporting this problem and for the files.
I think it's fixed in 1.61 firmware.

Let me know,

Thanks a lot for the file...
I can reproduce it... Strange i never noticed that when playing.

I'll investigate in the "new note algorythm"  ;)

« on: February 26, 2012, 11:26:28 AM »

Hi,

That can only be a hardware problem.
I had this problem after some time of usage on one of my PreenFM.
It cannot be linked to the CC you sent with max/msp.

Check the 3 pins of the faulty encoder.
There must  be a bad solder junction.
Even if you don't see anything obvious, try to resolder them just by applying you iron.
You can also check the junction on the network resistor and on the IC 74HC65 that come from this encoder.

Let me know if you find something,
Or if i'm not clear,

Hey thanks a lot.
These are the first PreenFM Patches on this forum !!  :D
Some of them are really good :
I like a lot the release in Bellish...
Or how one of the buddha Pad become fragile after 2 seconds (test patch.syx).
Nice... :-)

Tips to get a better signal/noise ratio.
Reduce the "Velo" value, that will prevent the noise to be very low.
Try to increase the sustain value of the enveloppes.. If that does not change the main idea of the sound, prefer them high.

Have you tried to use the step sequencer ?
Please keep on sharing !

Gregor,

I cannot reproduce the problem you describe with long release time.
Could you send me the midi file ? I suspect some specific timing...

Thanks,

Xavier

Hi Gergor,

Thanks for your post.

I have no idea what can be wrong with the fantom X6.
If you record the phantom in your sequencer and then playback the midi to the PreenFM, is it always OK ?
Does the missing notOff only occures when the Phantom is plugged directly in the PreenFM ?
If you find anything that help me understanding please share, this is a problem that is worth a firmware update.

I'd love more voice too  ;)
I need a more  powerfull CPU for that. The new STM32F4 can be a good candidate... but it will eventually be in PreenFMV2 with new hardware.
All LFO and all Matrix modulation uses 1/10th of a single 3 operator voice.

What you expect regarding polytphony is exactly how it should work.
The behaviour you get is NOT the normal one. And unfortunately 1.60 won't fix anything on this side.
I'll try to reproduce it.
And be back to you soon.

Bonsoir,

Merci pour l'info.
Les 2 74hc165 montés à l'envers empêchent l'affichage sur le LCD... Interessant... mais ça m'échappe un peu.
J'en apprends tous les jours  :D

Je suis bien content que tout fonctionne maintenant.

Here is a part of an email i recieved from Leaflabs yesterday:
"Also, the order for new Maple Minis is finally going through,
so we should have those at some point soon as well."

Hi,

Confirmed.... Seeedstudio just went out of stock :-(
I'm going to add a warning on the shop about that...

Sorry, i don't sell maple mini alone, they are all packaged with the full kits.
Leaflabs is out of stock for a month and they told me a next batch is planed for early march but they were very vague about it.

Your PCB is stil in the enveloppe, let me know if you want me to cancel your order and refund you through Paypal... Just a button to press ;-)

PreenFM1 (the blue one) / Re: MIDI Clock
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:01:20 AM »

... reading the Manual and in the Forum i started wondering, if it is possible to sync the LFOs and Sequencer by Midi Clock. i didn`t find anything about that.
it would be really nice to be able to do so, at least with the sequencer...
i don`t really have a clue about programming, but i imagine if it is not implemented yet, it might be quite a piece of work to deal with midi clock. so maybe in some future update?
Paul

The "future" is here and now  :D
PreenFM last official firmware allows MdidiClock synchronization of your LFO and Step sequencer.... (And a gate effect in Bonus)

Why not starting by a video  ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3yrd2YvkUo

Then, I would suggest this reading :
http://noisesculpture.com/how-to-make-a-noise-frequency-modulation-synthesis
1,5 Euros for the Kindle version...

This link is intersting too:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr00/articles/synthsecrets.htm

In this onen you need to adapt the example to the PReenFM but is worth reading:
http://the-all.org/tx81z/fm_overview.html

To practice with the PreenFM you can start with AlG1 with IM2 = 0 and IM3 = 0.
Just play with OP1 and OP2 and IM1.
Start modifying the OSC and the enveloppe and try to understand what's happening...
Remember that OP1 is the carrier (the one that create the sound)... and OP2 a "modulator", it affects the spectrum...
Start slowly to add a LFO in the Matrix.
Continue step by step.

Installing Linux will also allow you to upload your firmware easily...  ;)

Let me know when you set up you dev environment....
