preenfm2 and preenfm3 / Re: New build - couple of useage questions
« on: April 04, 2015, 04:25:43 PM »

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.  :)

1. Yes it works when you plug an headphone directly in the audio output... Output impedance of each prenfm2 audio output is 68 Ohm.
It has not been designed to behave as a headset amplifier, but in some situation that can be usefull.

2. No. That would require a OTG Usb driver which is quite complicated  ;)

Yep, you should try checking the OLED connector soldering points.

Yes lack of feedback.
But also FM vs phase modulation which does not give the same timbre where there are 3 operators in a row.
Yamaha also has a special attack mode... Very fast.
And the way it works makes eveything non linear. Requires big table to make the conversion from yamaha operator output to Modulation indices.
See the code in preenfm2 code to convert Yamaha parameter to preenfm2 parameter:
https://github.com/Ixox/preenFM2/blob/master/src/utils/Hexter.cpp
I spend a lot of time on it, even if what i do is based on the Hexter sysex decoder code.
http://dssi.sourceforge.net/hexter.html

As the engine inside the preenfm2 are very different, i don't think we can do much better than how it is currently is without rewriting the preenfm2 engine.

Hi John (i assume you're John),

Yes you should have received the tracking number on the address email  you used for your order.
I just resent it manually.
Let me know when you have it...

Thanks Clément for replying.  :)
NineFourtyFive, yes, the manual is here:
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/synth-edit-mode/
Navigate through the other parts of the "manual" menu to find information in other areas of the preenfm2.
And let me know if you find some missing information.

Several people built the preenfm2 as their first build, and it worked.
As you said, you should start soldering a simple kit first though.

Thanks a lot clément for sharing this.
I had a try yesterday night, and that's a great bank to have.
I found some really nice presets... from memories, I liked a lot "Pull Marine" and it made me smile. Needs a little chorus to sound like the song, but it's a nice one :)

I linked this thread from the download page.

And a huge buzz: 12 downloads so far  :D

WOW, it was 10 this morning...  ;)
12 in 24 houres. At this rate you'll rapidely exceed the total number of preenfm2  :o

I installed the bootloader again ,and device manager is recognize  the m.c saying everything is working properly

You installed both bootlader AND firmware, right ?
What if you press a key when switching the preenfm2 on ? Does the leds light up ?

It can be a bad soldering point:
. that prevents the CERB40 from runing.
. that prevent the CERB40 from sending any info to the DAC.
. an OLED problem.
Or a mixture of the aboce.

Does your preenfm make sound ? A small "plop" when you switch it on ? Play sound when you send midi ?
I cannot read the DAC model you have... double check  it's a MCP 4922.

Most FM synth, use the volume to modulate more or less the follwoing operator.
With the preenfm, you have direct access to IM : Modulation indices.
That's a bit different, just closer to FM theory.

I just added a line that was missing for v : v = velocity.
http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/manual/synth-edit-mode/
v is the amount of modulation that is injected by the velocity of the note you pressed.

You can silence an operator by selecting "none" as its shape.

Now something new! I realized I had the old firmware from the /pfm2/ download along with 1.06, so I deleted the old versions. Now, when I plug in the PreenFM while holding (2) I get this screen: "PreenFM bootloader v1.00 USB upgrade". It then moves to this screen: "Flash Firmware No firmware on Key <- Please Reboot ->".

Almost  ;)
You should be able to browse the firmware on the USB stick while pressing one of the left buttons.
Any of the 2 right butttons flash it.
"No fimware on key" ... you deleted too many firmware.

Thanks for sharing.
No information on the window are required, thanks for asking.
People will google "preenfm2" if they're interested  ;)

If you use the preenfm2 in one of your track, don't forget to share  :)

I've never seen any not working CERB40 untill now.
I don't know where you bought yours.

The URL you copied is not a CERB40 at all... Doesn't even have the same MCU.
It won't work.

Jumper 3 does look like it is 'bridged' which would cause the DFU mode - I'd triple check that one :) .

Agreed.... Please check with a multimeter. Or please post a closer picture of JMP3.
