Yep, I noticed there were no full kits available anymore right now ;)

I should really do a video to demo some patches... also, as I'm using mine pretty often, some PreenFM sounds will definitely be on a few records & soundtracks within the few months!

My pleasure! Ah ah, glad the reference name is paying off, giving a preset the right name is 20% of the sound, I should not neglect this  ;D
A lot of them are just tests or unfinished, but it's always nice to have some stuff to start with.
I'll post here any updates so that they follow on the website as well.

I just uploaded an extended version, same it's pretty rough and not polished, but why not sharing?

I have no idea if this is accurate for the Preen, but I'd be curious… thanks a lot for sharing this, that will be useful!

Check chapter 2 of the manual ;)
In FM Synthesis, you often refer to an oscillator as "operator".

Quote
Shape :
This define the waveform that the oscillator is creating. Pure FM snthesis only use sin waveform.
PreenFM even propose a noise (rand) waveform very usefull to create percussive attack or to add noise to your sound.

You can chose for each operator independently between sin, saw, square, noise and 3 sinus variations.

And the line just above this one answers your other question:
Quote
The available filters are (in firmware 1.04) : Low pass 2nd order, High pass, Bass boost, Band Pass and crusher.

Be aware that there is only one filter, you won't trigger a filter per voice, each time you play a key the envelop of the filter will trigger with all the sound getting through it.

The code of PreenFM2 is available so you can definitely mod anything you want if you have the skills.

Although it's a mess, I feel like sharing some presets that I use. I didn't come up with all of them: some of them are straight DX7/sysex imports, others copycats of DX7 presets, some inspired by the default presets of the Shruthi (4 & 15) and there is also a preset that widdly shared on the forums (12 & 16).

Those are keyboard playing oriented. I recommend using reverb, I have a TC Hall of Fame and an echo, it helps a lot.

I hope people who know the DX7 will recognize patches 36, 38, 41, 42 and 43, as those are copies from the ROM1A presets. Importing sysex was not providing great results (as Xavier mentions on the website the point is more to start working on sound rather than getting accomplished patches), so I used the freeware "DX7 Librarian" to check out how they were made. I also used this video as a reference for 36 & 38 mainly.

The presets that I came up with and use often would be 1, 8, 11.

The rest are mainly sysex imports. I often use 33.

As you can see most of them are pretty soft on the FM side ;)
Some of them have mod wheel / pitch bend / performance pots active, some others don't.

Thanks for your blessing  ;)

Of course I'll post here any music that I've done linked to the PreenFm! Nothing released so far… but I'm still working on a bank of presets, both personal ones and gathered from DX7 files.

UPDATE: it's on the m4l website now!

Hé hé :)

Hey ItalianOx, I'd love to take a look at this pdf but the link seems to be down (or even the whole website actually), did you download it a long time ago? I'll check again tomorrow morning.

EDIT: it's fixed, downloading now!

Hello, the "v" is for "velocity", it determines how much the according IM is responsive to keyboard velocity.
To turn an operator off, just set the wave of the operator to "none". I suppose that should do the trick?

PreenFM2 - Performance V1.0

Voilà, it's on the MaxForLive website now: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2781/preenfm2-performance

Original post:

Hey,

I just started a M4L controller for the PreenFM2. It's just supposed to be a one way Live > PreenFM2 thing to make automations or control with an automapped controller. So the point is not to do an editor (as the one provided works perfectly) but more of a performance. In fact so far I just put the Performance pots, which is already quite enough to have some fun!

For the design I went with the classical Live9 / M4L style. I kinda like it. I'm not sure I manage to put the logo within the patch… if someone downloads it can you please check if the Logo appears?

Xavier, let me know what information you want to appear on the window (your name, etc…), so that when I'm a bit further I will put it on the M4L website. Any credit for the logo?

Nice! Your website is really inspiring :)

Unfortunately I can not help at all with this (unless I learn everything from zero).
Don't worry about it too much, we just wanted to be sure so we stop trying  :D

Hello hello,

A friend I built a PreenFm2 for asked if the program was 10.6.8 compatible? I'm using 10.7.5 with no problems, but he couldn't run it on Snow Leopard. Just to be sure that we didn't do something wrong.

Thanks!

Same, I can not see any obvious thing sorry :(
There are a few soldering point that look kinda "weird" though, I would advice you to resolder any point that looks kinda like a ball, I'm sorry I don't have the time now to highlight those on your picture. Unless you're 100% sure of your soldering skills?
The yellow should come from the flux of your solder, mine produces quite a lot as well, it shouldn't be a problem but who knows, maybe it's hiding one!

Some friends heard that I was having fun with my PreenFM2 so they asked me to put one together for them. It should soon be rocking on stage I hope :)

Here are some pictures of the build, with a big THANK YOU to Xavier for his support, as always!
