Ok thanks for confirming that. Presumably that's an 'unofficial' extension of the current firmware. Should I back up all my patches before installing - I mean, will it overwrite everything?

I just tried it. You keep your preset banks and so on, if that is what you worry about.

How can I test these. I'm not too techy. Does the file load 'on top' of the firmware (1.03) or is this that the same firmware with the modal stuff integrated?

Just seen the notice below. Sad news. I really hope my FM3 never breaks. It's a weird thing. I have owned and used so many different synths and electronic instruments and obviously most of them are commercial mass produced instruments. Yet I get closest to the sounds that I want to make with the FM3. I'm always looking out for other FM synths but I'd be so disappointed to have to use any of them as a replacement for the FM3. Big thanks to Xavier and everyone else who contributed to the making of the Preen FM.

January 15th 2025 :

cs4344 (preenfm DAC) are End Of Life by Cirrus logic.

Preenfm2 and preenfm3 are out of stock and cannot be built without the CS4344. Modifying them to work with another DAC is not easy,
and i don't have any plan to do that.

Thanks everyone for making the preenfm the successfull hobyist project it has been!

Just put a drop of resin in the knob so it stands off a mm, failing that just put paper in the knob.

Hi I'm noob I'm not a programmer.

I wonder if anyone has any guidance or ideas for the two issues I have.

I have a feeling the encoders on the farthest right need a more shallow knob? So they have more travel to press down? The other four click downwards allowing me to quicky change timbre. When I removed the knob cover the farthest right two will click down showing that they are mechanically and electronically sound. But with the knob on it they do not have space to travel. It's strange that all 6 encoders are not aligned at the same depth?

I have midi thru enabled in settings and I need it to work as my waldorf Blofeld does not have midi thru, but it never receives any midi.

I am sending to the preenFM3 from my polyend tracker. Preen is registering it and working fine. But nothing being sent onwards.

Hi all,
Can anyone post an example of a .scl file that can be read across the entire keyboard range with the preen?
Using an fm3, I got it to work correctly once. But then I stupidly fussed with the file and it doesn't work anymore. I don't know what the exact formatting was when I was successful

This file doesn't work, even though I used -CALC-'s advice of having a blank line in between the commented "description" and the description.
